Update 4:08 ABC News reports shooter's identity is Malik Hassan.

Update 4:05 Primary gunman used two handguns in attack

Update 3:58 ARMY: Gunmen were soldiers.

Update 3:56 ARMY: One shooter dead, Police officer is dead

Update 3:52 ARMY: 12 Dead, 31 injured, two suspects in custody.

Update 3:25 First release form the Army reports shooting happened at Soldier's Readiness Processing Center and Howze Theatre. It reads "Department of Emergency Services officials confirmed at approximately 1:30 p.m. Nov. 5 that more than one shooter fired shots into the Soldiers Readiness Processing Center and Howze Theater on Fort Hood."

Emergency personnel have responded to the scene and evacuated several wounded.

Update 3:23 Copperas Cove ISD has released Junior and Senior High students; elementary students have not yet been released.

Update 3:06 President Obama has been briefed on the situation

Update 3:05 Two gunmen are apparently involved. Metroplex Hospital in Killeen also received some patients from the shooting.

Update 2:49 Army reports 20 injured.

Update 2:35 Killeen ISD has 9 schools, all on post, on lockdown. KISD asks parents to stay away.

Update 2:30 Fort Hood is asking people on post to stay away from windows. Belton ISD is on Lockdown

Update 2:22 Fort Hood reports 7 people are dead 12 are wounded and one person is in custody.

Update 2:17 Temple ISD Schools Have Been locked down as part of this incident. The district's spokeswoman tells News Channel 25 Temple Police are placing officers at each TISD campus. The schools will dismiss as usual.

Fox news and Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson (TX) is reporting that the man that was killed was a Major.

This means he was an officer and had about 12 or 15 years of service.

I would have expected a private , but not a senior officer.

Not that it diminishes the crime, but not what I would have expected.

It was widely reported that Hasan was the 'primary' shooter but now there is some question if he was the only shooter. Hasan was said to be carrying two handguns, and was ultimately killed by civilian police. According to early reports, the dead shooter was a soldier who was due to be deployed, but had spoken many times about not wanting to go.
Hasan was an officer, a major, who did not want to be deployed and was upset about the war, per FOX News early reports. He also reportedly was an Islam convert. His name as being reported by the Associated Press is Army Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan. He is also being reported as an Army psychiatrist, reports the Army Times.
