Project Velvet Blue **Update**

Hi to everyone, I am Ali and here is a project thread about my e46 330ci.I got her back in March09 and this would be my first car…it had to be a fast one...lol and being around people like Mr. VYS and Viran does not help(in a good way guys) …lol

After much thought we finally decided that it had to be an individual with all the specs and it did. We went all the way to Birmingham to pick her up and the drive with boys was really fun…So finally Mr. VYS had some competition on the way back to London…he had his 328 glacier green(silver) then..lol...here are some pics of what she looked like back then!!!!

Having enjoyed the car for a few weeks the modding world started biting me…. So I decided to get the whole whack on the car but as you know this take time and money…lol. First thing I got some rims…had to be BBS and I went for the BBS 744 OEM rims on 5 series.
While the rims were on its way, I got the windows tinted and got myself a great piece of engineering kit….coilovers. Both the front and rear have adjustable damping and adjustable camber.

New low profile tyres

Better handling immediately noticed as soon as these were on the car.

Car finally lowered; just about to clear the speed humps but with caution..lol

Here are a few pictures at DC09

Now it was time for some serious modding, so went to see Bob at Autobody Technic for his advice and expertise (awesome guy and great work). After a few ideas being brought together with the help of my friends, the list was finally done.

Here we go:

Carbon fibre Csl Boot lid
Carbon fibre rear diffuser
Smoked led tailights
Ac Schnitzer mirrors
Carbon fibre kidney grilles
Carbon fibre BMW roundels
Carbon fibre headlights insert
New projector headlights with sidelights
Projector fog lights
Custom front bumper
Hamann Fog Inserts

I wanted to get all the bits in at the same time, so the car could go to the body shop and have the whole whack put on in one go….thanks to Bob this was possible. After a week on shopping, the car was ready to go to Bob.
But before that I went to see Dips, to see what we could do to the rims to make them look different. After some persuasion from the boys and dips we decided to colour code the centres and mirror polish the lips. I wasn’t too sure about it at the time, but what a brilliant idea that was.
This is what they looked like when the work was done to them:

Now the car was sent to Bob. Here are a few pics of the car in the body shop.

Custom work on the front bumper

The other bits that has been painted

Now Gaydon 09 was approaching soon and the car was approaching completion. This might sound crazy but the car was finished on the day before Gaydon that is the Saturday. I even took a day off from my part-time job (dedication)…lol…I was extremely pleased with the outcome and many thanks to Bob and Nick at the Body shop.

This is what she looks like now…

Final Touches

Final result

The car was pictured in the PBMW magazine at the Gaydon meet:

Unfortunately the headlights were not 100% completed (fitted but not functional) for Gaydon...lol. After having seen the Umnitza Orion V2 on an e36, I simply had to get some for mine. So that same day at Gaydon, managed to get a pair. After a week, with the help of Mr. VYS the headlights were finally fitted and functional:

Getting the angels ready; had to cut a few bits to get them to fit nicely

Carbon Fibre Insert

Fitted to the car after a few hours later….special thanks to Mr. VYS

The car on the way to Santa Pod Ultimate BMW 09:

On the Strip and Stand

In the mean time, while the car was being fitted with the new headlights, I also put an order through for an exhaust system. After gone through a few of the ones already out there, I decided to go for an Eisenmann exhaust with 83mm round tailpipes. The setup I decided to go for was the RACE option. After being hand made in Germany, the exhaust was finally here. I also got hold of some Evosport power pulleys. The car also got a remap that day thanks to Laj. Here are pictures of the exhaust and pulleys:

Pictures taken here and there:

There are still some more interesting bits to go on the car; I will keep you guys updated. Hopefully they should be on the car for next season.

Big thanks to Bob at Auto Body Technic (www.autobodytechnic.co.uk) for all his help and advice, Dips (www.thecustomcars.com) for refurbing the wheels and for his advice.
Now the greatest thanks to my friends; they know who they are but specially to Vlad (Mr VYS, Voldik) for his support, help and input. This would not have been possible without them….many thanks!!!!

Love the mods. My only gripe is the front corners.

Love the velvet blau metallic.

Well.... at least you had the right idea going for a while. All the performance parts at the end were nice to see but that front bumper makes me want to cry and the color matched centers on your wheels do not look nearly as good as they did when they were still in stock silver. Other than that the car is very nice.

I like what you have done...careful planning and execution and it was well done. I only see two things I would change. one, yes, the front corners and the CSL trunk...the line on the trunk does not match the car so it looks a little off but other than that the car is nice and clean and you have done a hell of a job!

cheers

M

The color is stunning, love the mods, but put on some Mtech splitters and you'll get a finished bumper

My Ride: is a money pit.
Wait, why doesn't the line match the tails? I thought all of the CSL trunks with handles are from one company? Some molded and painted CS splitters would have looked nice. Agreed on the corners and the wheels though M3 hood is a def for sure! oh and a black roof

Go away old man!

But really, a thread like this with so many pics would have a couple pages worth of posts in a couple weeks... and with wheels like that, at least a solid page of flaming
