I been getting a few PMs from folks with GPS Factory Navigation units looking for the 17 pin A Connector in their cars or wondering if they have the same connections.

From what I can tell you do have the same A Connector but it is location in the trunk with the GPS Computer ECU/DVD module.

and it will look like this

So you will need to hook up the parrot ck3000 and ctppar007 all in this trunk space and run the mic thru to the cabin dash area. The ck3000 mic wire is long enough to pass thru the firewall into the cabin along the driver's side and you can place it on the dash or A p!llar column. If it is short you can get a mic cable extender at Radio Shack or any electronics store.

Because you have the on board monitor you should have the BM53 receiver in the trunk and you do not have the CD53 head unit in the dash. I found the parts number with a picture from a 12/02 E46. Funny thing is the picture shows that the 17 pin connector is not the same on the BM53 instead it has the ctppar008 style 40 flat pin connector.

So you would definitely NEED to open up your trunk lining and pull this unit out to confirm what it has before ordering the ctppar007. As you may end up needing the ctppar008 or a relevant adapter for the DIY.

The range on the Parrot is very good. I left my 2nd floor hotel room and started my car in the parking stall below my room. After about 40 sec the CK3000 paired with my iPhone, which was on the desk on the hotel room about 25 feet away, and chirped.

How long does it take for the pairing when you are in the car?

Any other sources than the lowcostaudio place? Seems like they take 3-4 weeks to ship to N.A.

Someone mentioned ebay/liquid ice, but that may be the same shop, just their ebay store?

Usually 20 to 30 seconds. 40 seconds going through window glass surprised me, but hey, bluetooth is radio.

Thanks for the awesome write up Delmarco!!!

I have already purchased my CK3000 Bluetooth kit, and was looking for the CTPPAR007 Adaptor on ebay when I found a possible problem for my application. My 330i manufacture date is SEPT-2001 and it sounds like the CTPPAR007 may not be compatible according to the information found at (fitbluetooth.co.uk Audio & Communication Solutions) The following is from their site.

http://www.fitbluetooth.co.uk/files/details.php?id=155

"Application List (17 pin Round)
NB...BMW Changed Pin types on E46 manufacture from Feb 2001 - Sept 2002! From Round to 40 Pin Flat. Therefore it is worth checking with your BMW dealer parts dept (by providing your chassis number) if your model falls close to these dates.

BMW 3 Series E46 > 1998 - 2001 & Oct 2002 - April 2005

BMW 5 Series E39 upto 2001

BMW 7 Series E38 upto 2001 > Business/RDS/Navigation (17 Pin I-Bus)

BMW X5 2000 - 2001 E53"

Well I guess I will just have to check the rear of my radio before I buy the CTPPAR007. I was just hoping to tear into the dash one time instead of twice =(

I just ordered my CTPPAR007 Adaptor from that UK website and I'm on my way in ordering the CK3000 Bluetooth kit from ebay

One question, I have a 2005 BMW CD headunit (manf. on 05/2005) will this still work? I read somewhere that it will but I just want to double check...

*UPDATE* I found the info, no need to respond to this.

AUX is a $40 BMW plug in for head units approx 2003 and newer.
The 2 of the 17 pins in the back of the head unit activate the steering wheel phone buttons. Others feed other steering wheel audio controls. The Pioneer is likely built around other add-ons.

The Connects2 kit application:

Connects2 CTPPAR007

Parrot Bluetooth
Steering Wheel Adapter
BMW 3 / 5 / 7 Series / X5.
Use With CK3000 Evolution.
Business RDS/CD/Professional Old 17pin Block

BMW 3 Series 1998-2001 E46 (USA used the 17 pin to 2005)
with steering wheel controls

The Parrot CK3000 works in any car with a radio.

Finally got mine installed today... only took 30min thanks to this excellent write up. For all the Blackberry users here is a list of voice commands

Digit dialing.You speak the digits; the phone dials them for you.

Dial by name. Speak a name that has been programmed in your phone book and the phone will call that person.

1. Press the speak button on the steering wheel to activate a call
2. If you recently synched your addressbook it will take a moment for the phone to scan it, otherwise it will immediately ask you to make a voice command
3. Speak the word "CALL" followed by the FULL NAME of the person as listed in your addressbook
4. The phone will ask you to confirm the person or place (if they have more than one number in your addressbook entry), say YES or NO if incorrect, otherwise say HOME, WORK or MOBILE depending on the line you wish to call.
5. The phone will say the name of the person before dialing.
6. To end the call, you will still have to manually hang up the phone by pushing the R/T button or the end call button on your phone

Voice Command list:

* Call (Name or Number)
* Check status
* Check signal
* Check battery
* Check my phone number
* Turn Prompt (On/Off)

You can combine steps 3 & 4, for instance:

> "call FULL NAME mobile", and the BB will verify the name & mobile option.

I didn't know about the "Turn Prompt On.Off" feature. Thanks.

Also, if you record magic words in the parrot menus, then saying "Hang Up" will also terminate the call.
