How many fluid ounces would 1/2 gallon of ice cream be?

friends are doing a contest to see if they can do it. It sounds pretty easy to me and I'm just trying to see how much liquid it would be when melted because that's what's going to be sitting in their stomachs.

melt one and find out!

It'll be less than a 1/2 gallon because it's been whipped.

Though you should expect slightly less since liquid expands when it freezes.

I worked at coldstone for 3 years and their ice cream is 30 to 40% air. There are 64 ounces in a half gallon with ~ 35% air so that would be 41.6 fl oz.

Keep in mind that no one sells half gallons of ice cream anymore. It's all like 1.75 quarts - they made the packages smaller so they could keep prices lower.

It will be a lot less than 64. Ice cream has a lot of injected air into it. This is what seperates premium ice cream from store ice cream, is air to cream ratio. Premium ice cream has less air, winn dixie ice cream has more air in it.
