When they really think actively about it, I agree that most don't.

Some do, but more commonly, I think some religious people (my experience is obviously mostly with US Christians) have a habit of subconsciously thinking that religions (esp their chosen one) invented or at least have the monopoly on "true" morality. So they kinda have this intuitive assumption that a person that doesn't believe in any of man's deities must be bereft of morals.

Having said that, I've never spoken with someone that actually stuck to that belief once they seriously, consciously addressed it. But I'm sure some of those folks are out there.

The enemy of humanism is not faith. The enemy of humanism is hate, is fear, is ignorance, is the darker part of man that is in every humanist, every person in the world. That is what we have to fight. Faith is something we have to embrace. Faith in god means believing absolutely in something with no proof whatsoever. Faith in humanity means believing absolutely in something with a huge amount of proof to the contrary. We are the true believers.

When a Christian tells me that "I'm going to hell," it has as much merit as if they said Santa's going to bring me coal this year.

Someone posted this on Facebook as proof that the Ark story holds water... so to speak.

http://creation.com/full-size-dutch-ark

Quote:
Huibers kept to the general dimensions in the Bible, but had to adapt some of the details. Instead of three floors, he installed seven so as to use the space available. The massive vessel, as high as a three-storey building, is 138 m (c. 450 ft) long, matching the biblical description using a common cubit of c. 45 cm (18 in.). The width and height (30 x 23 m) are somewhat bigger, even, than would make it the exact proportions of the biblical ark for that cubit scale (c. 138 x 23 x 14 m, or 450 x 75 x 45 ft). Asked whether this degree of inexactitude mattered, he answered in his usual friendly and disarming manner: “The people who know the proportions better than I do already know all about Noah’s Ark. I want to reach all the others.”

Inside, Johan’s ark will have real geese, cows, etc. as well as life-size polyester ‘wold’ animals. Including some dinosaurs and even a ‘teenage’ T. rex. There will be two partly covered amphitheatres available for choir performances, lectures, etc. The tour which visitors can follow will be signed via elephant ‘footprints’ on the floor. As they tour the interior of the ark, visitors will pass by hydraulically powered moving models and robots of Noah’s family and other biblical characters, aimed at bringing the Bible’s history to life.
I find it proves quite the opposite.

that is so faulty. obviously the bottom right quadrant carries more utility than "about even" and the top right has less utility than the bottom right. logic being that an atheist lives life on earth to the fullest, doing whatever they please, while a believer will limit some of their desires to satisfy their religion.
