Wait I'm confused. You have a 2004 M3 with a 2001 Radio or a 2001 330i with a tape...

anyhow that picture is correct with your car's prod date. 17/01 for the radio (17th week in the year 2001) and that antenna amplifier has an 04/01 date on it from what I can see. So I'm not sure if the Tape Decks were modified before the CD Decks were all evolved in 09/01.

Now that would be interesting...

But guess what, my Phillips tape deck as 2 data connectors! I'm going to assume it might support AUX.

I'll have to test this out this weekend.

Amplifier w/o a power lead on a 2001 Sedan - Notice it has the old sticker but the "newer" part number P/N 690607503

Connectors - no power lead

2 data ports on a tape. Also no coax antenna hookup or power lead

Phillips tape deck

^^ Tape Deck in a 2001 330i.

What's more confusing is that I have a 2002 CD player from a 2004 M3. I'm pretty sure it wasn't swapped on the original owner.

This may be possible if the 2004 M3 was produced early 2003 like 04/03 and they just chucked a player in there from a late 2002 production date like 52/02.

I just created a thread about this a week ago about how production date and advertised model year date of a car fools customers into thinking they are buying a much newer car than they actually are.

If anything a car with a production date 04/03 could have started production 03/03.

There's a 65.12-6 943 430 on eBay now closing in less than a day with no bids. I already got one from the same seller - a national dismantler that doesn't know the added value of the 430. This is the factory rebuilt 429 so it won't have the problems that plagued that model.

I swapped one into my '01 325xi wagon along with an XM receiver and I'm lovin' it.

Anyway, someone's gonna get a good deal -maybe it's you.

Not a bad price on that ebay unit... I got mine on ebay (a 429 model) about 6 months ago for $100.
anyways this is definitely a worthwhile mod, I have had mine installed for about 6 months and love it. Thanks delmarco for the writeup!

on a side note has anyone gotten mp3 text to show up? people claim that you have to burn the files with id3v1 tags, or burn the disk at a low speed, or press x button on the radio, nothing I have found has worked.

Me either. I tried everything even Tag Scanner and nothing worked.
What is frustrating is the unit itself is capable of text display for the radio, sat radio and iPod but not the MP3 CD player.

My anoraking around the web led me to find out that the MP3 5 disc CD Changer Player that you hook up in the trunk does display ID text. But I'm not sure since I never tried that.

Looking for a new HU

Hi!

I currently own an 04 325ci and my HU doesn't read MP3. I'm a little bit confused about all the model numbers etc. I'm looking to buy one that DOES have MP3 playback capability...

would anyone be willing to sell me one? for cheap? hehe
or at least point me in the right direction... i'm really not sure what i need to be searching for.

And i apologize for not understanding if you had already explained this question earlier in the threat....

My car is a 2001 330i, itīs the european model (i live in Mexico, metric system), and i have the same HU and amplifier like yours.

My HU is a phillips, same model and no power line for the antenna amplifier.

And this is from factory, because i bought the car from the dealer.

Iīm also confused about the possibility of having an aux mode, but havenīt checked that yet.

Did you?

I am selling my deck if anyone wants it.

I have the opportunity to get Navigation and may go that route:

Included in Sale:

CD53 Alpine, Model CD53, Part Number 65. 12-6 961 215
USA-Spec Ipod Data Link w/ AUX IN

And Possibly the Voice Command Bluetooth will be included If I realize that it doesn't work with the Nav.

$500 gets everything.

sold my CD53 with USA-Spec and I have my new set up.

CD Monitor with Navigation, Sirius, Bluetooth, iPod Data, Aux-In and AM/FM. With Navigation the only thing I lost was the MP3 Data CD play back feature of the CD53 I previously had. Other than that I love it!

Great info!

When playing MP3s does it matter if the songs are in folders? Can you play one folder at a time or does it just default to playing your list alphabetically?

I cant figure this out. I want to play MP3 cds. I made an MP3 CD on my computer. It shows up in my computer as 120 somthing tracks. In my bmw it stays stuck on track one with no sound.

Here are my settings I got by holding "m".

SN 403824428
SV 12-04 43
RI 00
GAL 3
4 5/6 (switches between 5 and 6)
DSP 0 V00
TP-V 0
AREA USA
AF Man

I called BMW and they don't know what they are talking about. One BMW service advisor said they do not play MP3 cds, one says they do, but wont play burned cds (how you make an mp3 c without burning it is beyond me). My car plays burned cds just fine. :-/

great thread delmarco! these business radio's have got my head spinning. I've been reading this forum for awhile and now come across a good deal on a radio but i'm not sure about it... time to ask the experts. I have a 2001 bmw 330ci and I'd like to get my sirius radio hooked up while maintaining the clean stock look. I found a radio on kijiji for only 75$ bucks, won't last long.. its from a 2006 E46 and the seller says it is mp3 and ipod compatible.. will this work with my car and a sirius adaptor? thanks for your help!
