e39 diff id help

edit: sorry its a e36 bad typo

My buddy has a '94 3 series with a 5 speed and believes that his drive train is all stock. However, he is running at 5k rpms on the high way doing 75mph.

We are thinking he might have a different diff, and are we are trying to find out what he has in there, the only number we can find is : 3151892

Does anyone know what diff that corresponds to?

or how do we find out what his gear ratio is?
