Ok, thats it, Ive had enough! This is like the 6th epic build Ive read about in the last two days from northern Europe. Im packing my things right now and moving to Sweden because obviously there is something in the water there that makes you people freaking legendary! I need more!

With a mill at your shop, you've made really fast progress figuring this stuff out.

I understand exactly what happened with the "angle spacer", I had exactly the same thing happen when I made a wood adapter as a trial piece. But...we're not going to get it right on our first try every time....

How thick is your adapter plate? It looks thicker than the 1/2" stock I was using.

I still have all the ITB pieces from my manifold, I'll ship them over with the next package. (I don't need them)

Very nice pictures, keep it up!
Thanks Adam!

I schould have consulted with you first about the "angle flange"... Then I didnt need to waste 3 days of doing it. But also feels good that I noticed the negative things it brought.

The adapter plate is 15mm thick... 1" ~ 25mm, so it is a bit thicker than the one you made. With this it's REALLY tight to fit the injectors. I need to have the connection on the injectors pointing sideways. But it's also tight getting the right length of the runners, Thats one of the reasons for not going for a thicker plate.

Sounds great with ITB pieces. Always good to have some spare parts.

Are you talking about the M54 oem piece? The idle air ports wont be used.

Ha Ha, You really should reconsider that. Here is way to cold here. Someday when I get rich I wont hesitate moving to some place warmer... French Riviera maybe... Driving a cabrio, wearing a white shirt and drinking red wine. Or maybe be a Cowboy in the US? Is there any left to join?

This may make for a rather peaky HP/TQ curve. Should keep your left foot and right hand busy during spirited driving in the twisty stuff.

Yes I have missed alot. I guess as these cars prices dropped the real ethusiast started really jumping in the game. About a year ago I left this forums pissed off with the fact that every damn 5 threads it was another one about my angel eyes or some other stupid cosmetic mods. Which are fun but 95% of the threads I saw were all show no go.
Every performance oriented thread seemed to be my intake and exhaust are the best performance mods you can get. Every now and then a good guy would pop through with something sick. Which is what was keeping me around.

BUT eventually I got sick of it and defected to bf.c which has a ton of track junkies and stuff. But now with e46s the price of what e36s used to be 3-4 years ago this forum has changed. It used to be the FI and Track sections where the only ones worthy of looking at. This is like my second day back on the board ill have to check it out and see how things changed.

Oh and i just noticed you guys are in europe. Figures, im from the states myself. And im going to be starting a nice engine project, using a non-vanos m50 as my base for a race engine build. Anyone want to be friends so i can bombard you with a million and a half question or to discuss future engine mods?

"Racing and NA engine builds are life, everything before and after is just waiting" This is what Steve McQueen REALLY said, some of it was left on the editing room floor.

this is really, cool. I'm embarrassed it took me so long to check this m/s forum. Very interesting build.
Your valves are extremely familiar-looking. I really hope supertech stuff holds up, otherwise, it seems everyone building m54s will be screwed.
Your exhaust side ports are very similar to mine, you have a lot of undercutting of the valve guides. I'm sure that will make it outflow my setup. Your head looks great, genuinely awesome, it also looks like you port-matched the m54 head to conform to m52 ports.... which are better, and clearly you went way above the flow of the m52.
Are you using the s50 iac rail?

The Supertech valves work great at all the turbo engines here in Sweden, So I'm not hesitant about using them.

The head is flowtested, With following results:

Intake ports:

2mm lift: 63,9
4mm lift: 124,1
6mm lift: 174,7
8mm lift: 210,6
10mm lift: 230,0
12mm lift: 239,0
14mm lift: 240,6

Exhaust ports:

2mm lift: 66,9
4mm lift: 127,7
6mm lift: 168,2
8mm lift: 192,0
10mm lift: 200,4
12mm lift: 205,2
14mm lift: 206,8

It's not M50/52 matched ports. They are a bit different, but pretty close. I told him to shape the ports however he wants to, and I start working on the intake from there. I matched up the S50 runners to the ports by using JB weld, for getting a long and smooth transition from round to the port shape.

And yes, I will use the S50 vacumrail for idle air ect.

This will be nice:

Hope I can get it CNC'd next week. Just need to get a solid 600x120mm piece of 7075 T6 Aluminum first.

Also, all the CNC'd aluminum parts and the adapterplate between the head and ITB's will be anodized black when everything is done and fits.
