how much do you work on your car

How do you work on your car? (this is also based on tool ownership/accessibility - please answer based on what you could really do.... ie not magically making tools and lifts appear. )

a. Everything - would do a subframe weld in their garage
b. most things - i would do just about anything
c. basic maintenance and light mods - intake, wheels, oil, filters ect.
d. i dont get my hands dirty.

I can do a lot on my car, just as long as I have good instructions. This is my first BMW, but I've done a few engine swaps on other cars. I'm not too good with body shop work though.

enthusiasm is important. also tools. I am lucky to have a group of friends where i can get access to pretty much anything.... and that makes it easy. also having a few different garages to work in helps since i live in an apartment.

Haven't done much on my e46, but I've built an e30 track car from a totaled e30, plus a parts car, I've built exhausts, swapped transmissions, done clutches, welding, rebuilt an m20b25 stroker motor, suspension work, replaced all the suspension bushings on e30's, rebuilt/restored a euro e30 cabrio from pretty much a shell with a motor (new tranny, complete suspension, interior, some body)... What I lack is a lift (but I have 6 really tall truck jackstands from when I had lifted jeeps), and TIME!! I ended up with one of those damn "jobs" in a law office... and I go to school full time (for an anticipated career change)....

lol! I have a 2002 325i with 119k miles! Not too much breaking down yet though... I added sway bars from a 330i zhp, clear corners, new lenses on the headlights, and billies and h+r springs... about to do a software upgrade (thinking the Shark thing... anybody have ideas/opinions?)

Thanks!

I'll keep that in mind. Sounds like I might have to do a bit of research before dropping cash on something like that!

The ONLY thing I have never done and probably won't ever do is change my oil.

I don't like under the hood work. I'm more of a interior/cabin/electronics head.

only thing that prevents me from doing the work is tools... i'd do anything in my garage. however IMO dinan = gazillion dollars no gain shark = 299 with some gain... i wouldn't touch dinan with his dick... i like having things my way not having someone tell me no you can't have my software without my intake and you can't have my TB without my software and **** that! I like being able to pick and choose my parts
