I've been trolling these suspension threads for a while now, looking for details that set one brand of coilovers from another.
Being that I want the most functionality, comfort and reliability at the least amount of money I think I'm going to go with FK Coilovers. Specifically the Silverline X. The questions I have are... Who on here are also running these? How are you liking them? Approximately how many miles have you logged with them on? Your input is greatly appreciated! ![]() TIA. Ran the SilverLines on our E46 328Ci and they were a solid setup. Cheaper alternative to KW but the SilverLine setup was good quality and performed well.

Hey Nick, if I wanted to go a little cheaper and opted for the Cadmium Plated version (w/ adjustable dampening of course), would that be a wise choice?
Since I'm in sunny San Diego, I figure stainless wouldn't be such a necessity. What do you think? I might only save me another $100-$150. |

I think stainless is worth the extra cost, if nothing else, for peace of mind. We ran the stainless option here in NorCal and we do get rain but nothing too drastic...it was still worth it to know that we would not have to deal with rust issues down the line.

I just checked in with ECS Tuning's site and it appears they've knocked 36% off of their FK Standard Series, Sport Edition Plus (fully adjustable).
They're not making this easy for me! Aarrggghhhh! What do I do? Extreme corrosion resistance (w/ SilverlineX) or BIG money savings (w/ Standard Series)????? |

Are all the dampers Koni's?In the fully adjustable standard one they don't mention if the shocks are from Koni.

Is it true that they have basically no CS in the US and the lifetime warranty crap is basically BS?

Joe...would the softest setting on the coilovers give a more comfortable ride than the stock sport suspension?

With that said, I was in the same dilema as many of you in choosing. I've run Bilsteins, Koni OTS, OEM Sport Package along with various spring combinations for a couple various E46 models. I've also ridden in cars that have had Eibach, KW, Bilstein, H&R CO's. From my observation, the FK does a great job at dampening better than the stock sport suspension. Even at the 2nd softest setting, it seems to ride more comfortable than the stock sport suspension even with the harsher FK springs. The pistons are also beefier out back vs. oem as well which can only help in dampening. I wondered also about the dampening characteristics of the non-Koni versions and took a chance and decided to try them. Honestly, the FK branded shocks seem very similiar to the Koni Yellow OTS I've had before and has very similiar ride characteristics in terms of broad and refined shock curve(based on my butt shock dyno) and the bad roads I drive on. I was also struggling with getting the Silverline series but having had previous cadium plated shocks and driving through a few winters, I didn't see a need for the added SS versions considering I wasn't going to be keeping my car for more than a few years. I would definitely recommend the SS Silverline series if you plan on keeping your car for the long haul and/or also want to show off your car parts if you enter shows. One thing I have noticed is that at the upper most spring perch limit, I'm at where the stock oem sport package suspension was in height. I was hoping to raise it a bit higher for the snow season. But for people living in the warm climates or people wanting to "dump" their rides, these can definitely do that. I had it only halfway down during the summer months and that was already pretty low and couldn't imagine going any lower in the city I live in. Lastly regarding customer service, Joe has been very helpful at answering any questions I had both pre sales and after sales. I haven't had to do any warranty work so I can't comment but he seemed very enthusiastic about the products he sells and seemed to believe in them 100%. |

I'm really liking that deal on the Sport Edition Plus, but wondered if I might be better off with an H&R Touring Cup Kit. I have an 01 325 Ci Sport Pkg with a blown front shock, so I need to do something. Not looking for extreme drop, the roads in Tampa SUCK, but would definitely like a little firmer ride and a reasonable drop. Seems to me the FK is a heck of a deal at @$100 more than the H&R.
Can anyone compare the 2 setups? Many thanks! M1sandman Tampa, FL 00 323iT Sport Pkg 5-Speed (Silver) 01 325Ci Sport Pkg 5-Speed (Black) |

I'm confused.... do all of the FK Coilovers come with Koni dampers or only certain versions?
