I'm changing the control arms ball joints and bushings on my 330Xi. The BJ on this car come separate from the CA. I used the BJ tool and the 3-jaw puller from harbor freight to remove the BJ and the bushing. My question is:
How do I press the bushing back into the CA? ![]() BTW I plan to go pay a mechanic to press in-out the bushings . |

Not to steal your thread, OP. But, the dealer says my outer, passenger-side, ball joint on my 2002 330xi needs to be replaced. Do I have to buy the entire new control arm or can I just buy the ball joint??

yes they are incorporated into the CA. do your bushing and inner ball joints and sway bar endlinks while you are at it.

Yea, I figured I might as well do the inner ones too. Should I replace the tire rods as well??

Just curious, how did you know they were going bad and needed to be replaced? I think its time for mine, getting a funny, yet ugly sound from the front end. Possible mine need to be changed too, what do mechanics typically charge for this?

You need to lubricate it with something that dries. I invested in a quart of P-80 Emulsion which is a specific temporary lubricant for assembly of plastic and rubber components. It was about $15 (ebay) for the quart but will probably last me 10 years since so little is needed.
As was mentioned before, many people have had luck with soapy water. Something called "Circolight" is what BMW lists as a temporary rubber lubricant. |

DONE!!! I'm done, I just finished installing the inner ball joints and bushings. i used a 5Lb hammer to make the bushings go in. Does anybody knows what are the torque specs for the inner ball joints? Do they pop as when you take them out?
