To buy or not to buy: Nav-TV

Interested in it, as I am a gadget guy, but unsure of picture quality. Those with it or who have seen it could you comment?

Just buy it, its better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

But it can only get "on-air" channels, rite?
Can you install/hook up portable DVD players to it??
Can anyone show pics of DVD hook up?

you can buy DVD player from nav TV for 250. i want one too, but i was told the sound is only mono!!

You won't get great picture quality from the TV tuner but I think you can hook up a DVD player to it.

yes the sound is only mono. the input jack is mono only.

That suck.. I wanted so bad.. but if it is mono only.. than I should look for aftermarket part that will do the job.
do any one know if there is any aftermarket maker that have the tuner for the stock navigation.

I had called them and it is mono but like 2 months ago they were working on making it stereo

I have it, the reception is crappy unless in the middle of a big city, but the DVD is great for long trips for sure. And you can hook anything to it, playstation, etc...

And you can rig it to be 2 channel sound with a simple adapter, get creative here guys

Satellite TV is out for vehicles, but right now the "dish" is just too large. With time I'm sure it will shrink, and I plan on getting that as well

It's a real PITA to install too, so be prepared.

Just installed mine today. TV reception isn't that great, but looks sweet when you connect a DVD player to it.

When I 1st heard it was in MONO, i didn't want it. I hooked it up to the DVD player and sounds great.

For DIYers...

is the screen true color - i mean the nav system only uses like 8 or 16 colors - so i was curious if the dvd picture quality sufferred..?

I have the NAV-TV in my 2002 M3. The picture quality is good, however you will experience glare on your GPS during the day time. I got around this by adding limo tint. The NAV-TV has inputs to where you can add DVD, PS2, XBOX and etc. The sound is "MONO" only and the attenna is NOT POWERED. It is a hit and miss to pick up public television, but I watch DVD from the XBOX anyways. You can watch the TV while the car is in movement. I would recommend this to any BMW owner that wants to convert their GPS.

id do it if i had the cash and the nav.

How did you do this? AV input is mono. Did you use backup camera video input with blitzsafe adapter and a separate ground switch to select?

In the trunk or somewhere up front?

Someone mentioned with jack can hook up to DVD players, PS2 and other.. but is the jack in the trunk or in the front?

I still like any Pioneer Navigation better than OEM BMW.

The audio and video jacks come off a new harness supplied with the video module. This is located on the left side of the trunk with all the other electronics. I had a DVD player mounted onto the underside of the package shelf with a remote extended to the glove box area.
