Smart move, dont play with it untill the dyno. Even if it stays around the same hp, the weight alone makes this worth it, I bet it weighs a good amount less than the magnaflow.

Edit: Speaking of weight, did you remove the rear seats? I did about a week ago along with a mini cooper battery and the car feels great. I'm going to get a custom mat to cover the seat. I'm getting it made by the same guy who did this
http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...ar+seat+delete
It's going to look similar except will say "bmw performance" and cover the entire bench part as well. Let me know what you think.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say, you will have gains with that set up. The exhaust looks good.

Seats stay in. Baby needs a place to strap in!

On another note, I like the way it sounds at idle.

I told you I was worried about the Y pipe too. Should I throw in for a new one if this one doesn't work out?

If this one doesn't work out, I'll gladly take donations for a better one!

I was at my shop the other day.. I saw an OEM Y-pipe. I asked what it was from and my bro said it was from a later model e46. I'd assume bmw didn't switch for nothing. Either way before you dyno, I want your exhaust just pm me. I was going to make the exhaust you fab'd based on the oem y pipe. IE distance from the headers to the connection. I'm curious to see the distance from the headers to the Y pipe and how you chose that distance!!!

BMW switched from a Y in the 323 and 328 to a dual in the 325 and 330. I don't understand your statement.

I'm asking how you decided where to place the y pipe. what distance from the headers? Or was it just kinda a guess?

The Y-pipe was already welded on when I got it. It's just installed as it was received.

I'm getting a little more used to it. It seemed like it droned a little more last night, but some of it has cleared up (after about 50 miles on it this morning).

This may be a silly question, but I'll ask anyway. My headers are Swain coated, so they're getting some good insulation. Right when it hits the Y-pipe (which is going from around 2 inch to 2.5 at the merge and then opening up to 3) I would imagine the exhaust is starting to cool. I would think that would be a bad place for that to lose velocity. I have a roll of exhaust wrap. Does anyone think I would benefit from wrapping the y-section and back into the 3-inch by a foot or so?

why not move the y pipe closer? To the headers?

I don't think it can get much closer. If I get another Y, I can possibly move it up a couple inches.

I don't think it will help. You just don't want a massive pressure drop going from 2"-3" instantly. How does the butt dyno feel.

Honestly, the butt dyno says I lost power. But, it might be my ears playing tricks on me. It used to sound really raw up top. It sounds more tame, now.

i wish i had the cash to do this kind of thing to an e46. I cant wait to get an e30 so i can actually build it up and do so comfortably. cant wait to see the dyno sheet.

hmm i just had a thought. How would you lose power when you bored out the TB? Since you didn't gain any HP, that means that there is a bottle neck somewhere in the manifold or the head. Which means that the same amount of air is going into the motor, therefore making the same amount of power. How is it possible to lose power? Am I right? I remember you saying the humidity was almost double your last run... that's probably what caused the drop in power, not really the tb.

...or did we all know this and i just realize it?

To be honest, the major benefit you should be looking for is more mid range power than peak. Though even so, I don't expect a large change in peak power.
