You should have taken a shot when both the p46 was still on to show how much of a difference there was.

yeah i know i totally forgot to do that. but the difference is night and day. The p46 had hot spots right in the middle, these are much more dispersed which results in more light on the road.

You have any pictures of your p46 from before? I am sure you did the same thing when you first got them and shined them on your garage right, lol.

Finally got to align the new projectors. A buddy of mine works at the airport here in town, so he let me use the hangar door and taxi area to align the lights.

Followed this diy: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...&highlight=diy

I put the passenger side slightly higher than the diy said cause i like to have a little more light throw on that side.

Again sorry for the crappy photos, forgot the DSLR at the apt.

NOTE: The cutoff is slightly blurry, will probably swap out lenses for some ZKW-R lenses to sharpen that cutoff up

With those distance shots, see the difference in front of the car? th spread up to the cutoff.

The p46 just doesn't have that.

Great retro-man. I've been saying this all along and get bashed and flamed. If people only knew and saw the difference.

My Ride: is Stage 2 AWD!
Ugh, light distribution is sooooo much better then the p46. I missed my chance to get an OEM set by about 3 days as I had already ordered my p46's before they were posted
The p46's are much much better then halogen but there really is no comparison to OEM. I am actually going to modify my p46's right now so I'll post some pics when I'm finished, I forgot to take before pics . Anyway, great writeup man and excellent job. I may be taking this route later down the road depending on what I get out of these DEPO's.

I agree the p46s are a great step up from halogen, i just was getting sick of the hotspots, and in order to compensate for it, its better to run 50 watt hid in the p46s, but the still lack the spread and cutoff that the oem offer. What kind of modifications are you going to do to the p46s?

Thanks, for the housing i just used the p46 housing, my car is a 2000 sedan so i used whatever housing i got when i got the p46 back in 05. As far as the projectors, ballats, ignitors. i got em off ebay from a oem xenon seller. They didn't say what year they were from, but considering bi-xenon became an option in 2003 i know the oldest they are are 2003.

I made a mistake. It says on e46 wiki that the bi-xenon configuration was introduced in 02. Is your car used maybe it had the BMW retrofit put into it? I'm just going by what the wiki page says.

Thanks. Problem wigh the p46 projectors is the lenses are 2.5 and oem are 3. I'm sure you could find some lenses that fit but then you still have the problem of the inferior reflector bowl. I just opted to get rid of the p46 guts all together and get oem. Only reason I did this swap as opposed to buying used bi-xenon headlights is 1 it was cheaper and 2 I didn't want to have to find a way to get the corners to connect (I have clip in style, most bi-xenon headlights are screw in style).

Production of 09/01, Model Year 2002.

My car is an 04, but produced 9/03.

They can't make it in 04 to get it on the showroom floor in jan 1 04...
