Auto to Manual Swap.. DME question???

I am doing a auto to manual swap. I have for the most part found the parts list for everything I will need to do it. I called the bmw dealer near me to ask them if the ECU needs to have the software changed on it after the swap. I was told that the DME is what will need different software and that they do not do it there. I searched the forums but could not find the answer to this question. Was the dealer right and do I not need to touch the ECU and only have the DME changed. And if so does anyone have any recommended places that I could bring/send my DME to get done. I am in the NY area but if I need to I will mail it out to a shop to perform the job.

Thanks neil i dunno how i missed that 1 you put up... n yea i got balls but i really jus got a bad 5th gear and ive been wanting to do this swap for a while...
