The UI change was made with the V5 Dynavin.

I haven't been able to get USB music/videos working since install. All will play fine over dvd discs however when I use a USB thumbdrive (4gb) it says something along the lines of "no file support" or something.

All my music is MP3, and the video I tried was an .AVI format. I tried reformatting the USB drive, using folders/not using folders but I keep getting the same message. Is it a possibility it just ...hates my USB drive? Or am I doing something wrong?

Firstly, try another USB drive and make sure that if you format it that it's FAT32
Also, if you do format the USB use a Windows PC and not a MAC.
Note also that when you buy a USB stick it comes already formatted so ther's no need to format it again yourself.

Jeff, this question is not entirely dynavin related but the radio was not working when I installed my dynavin so I bought a cheap ant. from advanced auto and the radio works fine with the other ant. The radio worked fine with my alpine so either the cable got cut to the stock ant. or somethning else. Any suggestion on where to start I have the new style 02 radio using the 7 inch adapter

Sounds like maybe the antenna adapter could be bad?

I have had my Dynavin V5 installed for a week now and am gradually finding my way around it.
GPS working fine as is Bluetooth and CD. Fitted reversing camera yesterday and am very pleased with it too.

Problem is the radio. Both AM and FM very bad, fading in and out, static and reception depends on direction vehicle is traveling.

My 325i is 6/2001 and was fitted with the later HU and Antenna Amplifier, in that the head unit had only one antenna cable.

Unit is Phillips made in South Africa (Australian cars were all assembled in South Africa)

Note this unit does not have the second antenna lead as the earlier ones do.


Now from what I understand from this thread AM/FM Upgrade Post #1, the later OEM HU supplies a 12v signal to the Antenna Amplifier via the antenna cable and aftermarket head units often require the injection of 12v into the antenna coax. (See the above link, post #65 on page 4 and post #81 on page 5). Now I checked the central pin of the coax from the Dynavin at the amplifier and I do not have any voltage at all.

I have removed the Antenna Amp and cleaned the contacts and screwed it back firmly - no real improvement.

Question:- Do I need to inject 12v into the coax to get my radio up to full power?
Is there a possibility of damaging the Antenna Amp?

How have folks with 2002- 2005 E46s with Business CD gone with radio reception when installing a Dynavin V5?

Edit:- Only thing I haven't tried is putting back the OEM HU and seeing if the coax is delivering 12v. Anyone with a later NG (New Generation) HU want to pull their rear pillar and check the center of the coax for 12v?

Update:-

Took out the Dynavin and reconnected the OEM HU. Radio fantastic on both AM and FM even while still in the Garage. Measured the voltage of the center of the coax at the Antenna Amp at 5V.

It appears that this adapter

Needs to be replaced with this one that injects 5v into the coax line:-


Looking at this thread I believe the circuitry is something like this:-


This injects about 5v into the Ant Amp while isolating the Dynavin HU from the DC voltage.

I have ordered such an adapter and see that the Top Left Pin of the HU Plug is the switched 12v which I will use to power it.


I will let the list know when I have received the adapter and installed it.

My Powered Antenna Adapter arrived today and has been fitted. FM is now amazing ... even with the car in the garage under the house ALL Melbourne FM stations coming in loud and strong.
AM ... not so good. No reception at all ... oh well, the FM is much more important.

just ordered mine from jeff...can't wait to install and play!!
Hope i don't run into any issues but i know where to look for and who to ask for answers!!!!!

I recently installed my Dynavin unit but my Cruise control buttons on the steering wheel stopped working. i am guessing this is not normal as I havent heard any complains about this. All the other buttons work fine and control the unit as they should.

Is there anything I could look into? or do I have a faulty unit?

My unit stopped working today out of no where it turns on but it produces no sound, I took it apart and inspected all wires and all is good.. I put in my old radio and it works just fine! Ugh! Any advice? Is it a bad unit?

I put a few itunes songs on my SD card in MP3 format but the sound only comes through the front speakers like the nav voice. Is there a work around? I really wished Dynavin would continue from the last song played from the ipod.

uncheck "navi sound" in the radio menu.

anyone else have a problem where their ipod wont work ? mine does with my 3g touch.... everytime i connect it it gives me a "timeout" notification on the dynavin and the ipod function freezes. oddily when i hook up my gfs iphone it works fine. i tried restoring my itouch 3 times and reconnecting it to the dynavin with the same results.... any ideas anyone ?

does the v5 unit support the cd stacker?

Unfortunately it does not, but you have two options.
1. The single CD slot for playing CDs and DVDs.
2. Rip ALL your CD collection onto a USB stick and run off that. I find that solution works well for me.
