considering a 7series...nething i should know?

well after parting with my bmw its a month down the road and im really missing it. i had to get a pickup to haul my 4wheeler in since i race like everyday at different places during the summer. im now thinking about getting a 7series. it wont be hard for me to get one (im 20 yrs old) cuz i used to work at the dealership so they will take me for real. i was just curious what everybody thought about those and if theres anything i shoud look for cuz i dont know to much about those, just that their really nice. iv driven a few when i worked there and i loved em.

Nice car but without drivetrain and electronics coverage those cars can be a nightmare. My brother has a 06 750Li fully loaded and that is one fast ride. GL

You should probably know that a 7 series isn't an E46...

Check out the 7er forums at Bimmerfest. Search for problems and you'll get a good sense of what could go wrong.

The 7 series is one hell of a car! Big, fast and lots of bells and whistles. With all of the technology in the is important that you have a warranty to keep any costs under control. There are a lot of excellent deals out there currently, so look for a car with the longest CPO warranty possible. (assuming your going with an 06). Also, a lot of 7 owners are getting 3rd party warranties if the car is coming out of CPO coverage.

I have a 07 750Li and it has been a great car. No problems to speak of and an excellent driving experience. When I want to feel the road a little more.......I jump in the E46.

Good luck!

Definitely get an extended warranty if you can; my uncle had his 07 750Li (bought at 32k miles) for less than a year now, and the warranty covered nearly $15k worth of repairs so far. I'm sure his car has more problems than a typical 7, but the cars are not easy to work on at all, and there are a ton more things to fail than in most car.

I have a 760Li as well as a 330d. The 7 is awesome. It's such an occasion driving a 7. You are cossetted to within an inch of your life every trip, and if you pick a decent engine the power delivery is amazng.

If you find a decent used car with a CPO go for it. One word of advice - if buying used, make sure you get one with the options and in the condition you want. You have plenty of choice so don't settle for less.

Finally, remember that although you may be able to pick up an E65/66 for decent money these days, they can still be strong money to run if something goes AWOL outside warranty. If you go in with your eyes wide open to this, they are a fantastic car to own.

I've got a thread going on a UK BMW website about my ownership experiences so far (6 months in) which may give you a small insight...
