+1

We've found that intake to actually decrease power instead of increase it.

Yes yes I know, -1 hp. And xixixi, I did ask for people's opinions, and then promptly disregarded them lol. Oh well. I liked the sound of it, and no intake is really gonna give you too much of a power boost, thats what the headers in the mail are for... And an AA tune... and possibly cams...

We've seen on average a 5-10rwhp increase from long tube style intakes.

Put in a 17.5 hour school day today. That only happens a few times a year

Yeah, yeah. He knows. GruppeM sounds better and its way more unique. I know you're big on that.

I wouldn't put it [cams] beyond him. Hopefully he's learned about the fancy bmw torque requirements for installing cams.

I think nothing of the sort!

An ideal tune would be a live custom tune under conditions it will be driven in.

The only "power" mod worth the money for any e46 BMW is FI. By the time you spend money and buy every bolt on possible you could have just bought a SC'r and had twice as much power. I know this from experience and spending lots of money.

Understood and completely agree.

I was just pointing out that "canned" tunes or mail tunes are rarely ideal. Sure they might squeak a few more hp out, but just how lean are they pushing that motor without actual live datalogging?

So last night my technician friends tried to replace this for me

But they said something about the crush clamp that hold it in place.
I bought the filter from bmw and they didn't mention anything about any clamp.
We are new to the bmw world as you can tell, lol

How do you replace it?

Z not sure which part you are talking about? If it's that hose you just push the ends of it together and it pulls off. Do not jerk it, apply steady firm pressure or that line is going to bust.

I agree that live dyno tuning is ideal but for our (BMW) cars here in the midwest that's just not gonna happen. That's why I like BimmerWorlds approach. You clear all previous adaptations, then dyno, send that dyno to them, they tune the car based on that dyno, then you re-dyno, send that dyno back to them, then they make any corrections. Now with the remote tuning capabilities you can do this how ever many times you want. So it's basically a live adjusted tune.

Thats a solid approach too. Amazon does it for the Ford world, you get a base tune, datalog, keep sending back and forth with datalogs till you get where you want to be.
