I agree, dtc is the way to go this time around. even if you miss having a third pedal every once and a while
Why do you say this? Everything the Comp package comes with I will upgrade anyways.

Honest question... and think about it before you shat on the idea. Brad, when I spoke with you last you said you want to get a car you can build from the ground up... something you and your child can do together long down the road. Why not buy something like a e46...e36... 135 something and drop the S65 motor and DCT tranny??

Any one of those cars would be bad ass and would make a nice project...

Simple answer is budget, i wouldnt have that kind of budget. Now what im hoping is to daily the e92 for a while then when my kid is old enough we will build that. By then it will be paid off an ill have another daily.

Yeah I'm well aware. I was saying you need a non-sunroof option or the competition pack to get the cf roof. and I know you want that cf roof

The carbon roof should be no problem. Ive found a ton of great options so far, just not ready to buy. I really want grey on red but im more concerned abou price, roof, and dct.

so....why not get a dedicated track car and a street car? no space?

trying to find a car that is good on track and comfortable enough on the street for the wife is like trying to find a rain tire that you can also race in the dry.

I fell ya, there is no true "compromise". I know you aren't as familar with my dealings with my wife as some of the others so I will give you a few cliff notes.

She hates the money I spend
She hates the time I spend
She fears for my life
She doesn't understand my obsession

That should pretty much sum it up.

I thought about getting a totaled out e46 or e36 and building another dedicated track car. Now that I've sold the current car I'm not 100% out of debt (minus the ford payment) and could build another car but due to my wife not really being a fan it would be a slow process of saving and building. I just decided I can't wait 5-10 years to get back on track.

Thus the decision to get an e92 M3. Something that has all the tech and comforts a women loves but has the chasis and performacne of an ALMS winning car. I plan to make this thing as track worthy as I can without driving her crazy. Really the only differences between this car and the e46 is the exhaust will have to be toned down, keep ac/radio, glass windows, and interior. Once the car is paid off then I'm sure I will turn this one into a dedicated track car as well. It's just going to take longer due to the budget constraints my wife is putting on it.

Happy wife, happy life.

you know you can find a rockin car ready to go for $10-$15k right? race car market is $0.50 on every $1 invested right now. it might not have 400hp like you think you need, but it'll be safer, cheaper to buy and maintain, and give you plenty of leftover cash to buy a nice street car (maybe a nice tahoe to tow with?) for $20k that the wife will like, and you still have $10k leftover to pay off debt or whatever you want.

that may not be what you want to do, just a thought.

I for sure know I don't "need" 400 ponies, I had a blast driving my friends beat up 240 sx on track. It's just when you are used to one thing it sucks to downgrade, just my opinion.

I had thought about your option a bit but hadn't really dug into what cars were actually available. Part of it comes down to me really just missing driving a car on the street. I guess if I could find a car that wasn't so far gone it could still be driven on the street, that would work. I just put racing on hold for atleast till I can figure out the family situation, it's just such a grey area on what things are gonna cost. I'm not sure if I will have time to do 1 DE/track day or 14 (like I did two years ago). If I'm only going to do 1 or 2 days a year then there is no reason to have a car that I can't drive on the street. I will for sure look into that though because it is a good idea. I don't need a tow vehicle (have the explorer) but I could easily get a great car for 20k and a daily for 20k both of which being pretty nice.

Part of it was also that I just wanted a newer car and a new project, so to speak. The project part would just be a bit more drawn out.

Well that should lean you back to getting a non-M. If it wont hit the track, the the M badge is just money being thrown away, IMO.

Not so fast sir. I could get a well equiped e36 M3 in that price range.

I still have some time to look, next spring would be the earliest I would buy. The more and more I read though I really want an e92.

That is certainly true, I was mainly referring to getting a fairly new(2-3yrs) car as a DD.

A 335 would make a great DD, plenty of power, and its a BMW so it would be fine on the track a few times a year.

Just a quick search turns up a decent result, not sure what kinda miles you want.

I 100% do not want a 335i. If it is gonna be a BMW then it has got to have an M in it's name.

You know I love to mod and build ****, I also want a car that in 4-5 years I can go full retard with and lose my ass on when it comes time to sell it. The track/race parts that are available for the e92 are beyond my belief. If you had the budget you could basically build an ALMS or DTM car in your garage. Plus if I do want to race in the future, which I hope I will, the e92 will be the car of choice for NASA GTS3 around that time. The e92 just seems to meet all of my criteria.

I can street/track it now and race it later.

Honest question, why cant you do all that with a non-m E92? Same chassis, so I imagine all the hard parts are interchangable, and if you are upgrading them all anyways to go full-retard....well...
