Why so many 19" been sold?????

I have OEM 17's which I want to upgrade to 19's but looking at somany 19's been sold it makes me question if this is the correct decision.
Is it because the ride changes so much and you are selling the 19's and moving down to 18's or what is the reason?

Search, there are many "my car feels slower/sluggish with big wheels" threads! Unsprung weight kills performance.

I have 18's, no real complaint's here, I'm waiting to do my drop, but I think my stance isn't too bad. On the other side of it, the roads around where I live are so bad I wasn't gonna bother with 19's. See sig for pic.

With the right 18s there is no real issue, my prior post applies to the wrong 18s (Volk and other light, <20 lb being RIGHT----VMR V710 and other heavy, >25 lb being wrong) JMO!

I picked 18s over 19s due to these reasons:

1. Tires are cheaper
2. Most 18s are lighter then 19s
3. Ride and performance differences
4. Don't like my ride to look like SUV

Like SUV? you think not lowering your ride on 18s will not look like 4x4?

you might see some very obvious performance difference and your wallet will be much lighter when it comes time to get tires.
Most 19 in tires will cost more than 18's. Shop around for price differences for 18 and 19 in tires and see if you can stomach that every time you need to replace them.
Car will likely be slower with 19 than compared to 18
Not sure where you are in NCAL, I am in NCAL/Bay Area and would not consider riding on 19's because our fwys are getting worse by the day; and if you drive in SF, you will not be happy with 19's. Yes a lot of people do it.

My Ride: a car
you can get 19" wheels that are lighter than some 18" wheels

It is just opinions... Some people get real bent out of shape about this.

The biggest benefits to 18" wheels (when comparing to 19" wheels) are:

1.) Tire Price
2.) Minimal loss of performance / small increase of unsprung weight
3.) Less 4X4 look if you plan to stay with a stock setup
4.) Maximizing handling performance

Biggest 19" wheels benefits are:

1.) Maximizing handling performance (at this size though, it depends on the rim)
2.) Looks (subjective, so it depends on who you ask)

If you ask for my personal opinion...I would probably upgrade to 18" rims and get some decent all-season tires if the car is your daily. You get cool looks and your tires will last awhile, and your fuel economy hit won't be so bad. Non-M E46's aren't worth a lot of money, so personally I wouldn't dump $3k (I get that number in figuring in a nice 19" wheel set + high end summer tires) in a wheel/tire setup when my 3.0L can barely push 200rwhp.

Prices between 19s and 18s is not THAT much different..if he cant afford 19s tires maybe he shouldnt be getting 18s in the first place....it makes the car slower....BUT not to the point where you will be able to tell that much difference...I couldnt...Its upto OP...but just warning him that he will regret it down the road if he gets 18s instead of 19s
