Add me to the broken rear coil spring club....pics of carnage

Absolutely embarrassing and inexcusable for this to happen on a luxury vehicle, REGARDLESS of mileage. BMWNA will be getting a nice e-mail over this.

Hmm this doesn't look normal.

But wait there's more!!! The top also completely sheared off.

My rear near side spring cracked fairly low down as yours did...The worst thing about it is, my car had only done 29,000miles at the time

Its true unfortunately, BMW's are built to perform...Not to last

not that unusual, I've had it too at 44k. The funny thing is it didn't really affect handling, it was the slight uneven drop that gave it away in the end.

Make sure you get the correct one's for your year, model, etc. They should all be about the same price.

This happens to cars in general, not just BMW. Happened to my friend's old ford pickup not long ago. Same thing.

Spring steel is very susceptible to corrosion, and is very brittle. It's also very hard to weatherproof something that is constantly being stretched and compressed, and constantly blasted with water, rocks, and salt.

If BMW offered some titanium springs so that you wouldn't ever have to worry about this, I doubt many people on here would have paid the extra money.

Happened to me too. Common issue.
Hope you won't be paying $135 for new springs. Ppl usually give these away for next to nothing on this forum
