my favorite is Johnny Walker Blue label, but for your price range a bottle of Black label will be a good choice.

Balvenie 12 Year Old Double Wood
Cragganmore Scotch 12yr Highland Park Single Malt Scotch Whisky 12 Year Laphroaig Islay Single Malt Scotch 10 yr MaCallan Highland Single Malt Scotch 12 Yr Yamazaki Single Malt Whisky 12 Yr the last one is a japanese scotch and is one of my favorites. the balvenie is also one of my favorite ones. if he likes them smokey, the laphroaig, but only if he's a serious scotch drinker.

Ofcourse it depends on whether he like peaty or not scotch. Dahlwinni or Glenlivit works for me. They're not peaty btw.

please do yourself a favor and pick up (for $80 cheaper no less) a Macallan 18yr. This scotch blows blue out of the water.. OP... if you go to winechateau.com (listed above) they have some pretty good deals. I am huge on Macallan right now, however Glenmorangie is a great bottle, as well as Laphroaig (bit more smoky and peaty.) Glenlevit is good, however for your price range, you are looking at a 10 or 12 year depending on the deal you can score, both of which i'm just not that big a fan of. Oh yea, PS... if you want to spend an extra 20 and literally get the best bang for your buck, I suggest Oban 14yr. You can probably find it for $70ish and I will stand by this scotch until the day I die. Single malt and just fabulous. Last edited by SurreyF1; 12-13-2011 at 09:50 AM. |

![]() i saw almost all the names mentioned and these -glenfiddich, glenlivet, macallan, balvenie, lapharoaig - were in nice boxes or tubes which made a difference to me since i am gifting it i was really torn between the balvenie 12yr double wood(?) and the lapharoaig ... but the lapharoaig just jumped at me the most

this. balvenie 12 is a bit on a sweet side with sherry tones. it's one of my favorites but it's not very palatable to a non-scotch drinker. yamazaki is awesome and different. i've never met anyone that didn't like it. as for the johnnie walker comment... johnnie walker is seriously garbage. blue label is the most overpriced piece of trash on earth. you can get a much, MUCH nicer bottle for around half the price.
