Because the police will save them from the zombies.

^ it is not about zombies. It is about emergencies.

Watch an hour worth of Katrina videos and you will probably think differently about emergencies. Katrina was after 9-11 and they still could not function as 3rd world country for a month.

Partially because NY and CA are shitty states ruled by communist leaders.

The zombies reference was just for fun. As long as I have my EDC, I'm pretty much set. I keep a first responder's bag in my car (small one), so minor medical supplies are covered.

My EDC:

Taurus PT 1911 .45 ACP with leather IWB holster and spare magazine (spare magazine not pictured)
Coleman LED flashlight (120 lumens on new batteries)
Pen
Sharpie
Survival rope bracelet
Wallet
Keys
Kershaw Rescue Blur knife
Watch
Personal cell phone
Work cell phone (Nextel)
Cigarette Lighter (not pictured)

Toilet paper is readily accessible to grab and I always keep a bag with a change of clothes ready. I need to consolidate these things into a duffel bag or something.

It's relatively easy to conceal with just a t-shirt and I'm damn accurate with it.

1911's aren't as hard to conceal as you'd think, in my experience anyways. They have a thin profile which works for me for IWB carry. FYI, I don't carry a 1911, I just have tried it out in the past.

OWB, they work well, too. I've been meaning to get a Galco Concealable Belt Holster for it to carry OWB. When I sit in my car, my IWB holster tilts back significantly and the textured handle of the pistol is starting to chew up my seats.

Galco Concealable Belt Holster:

So instead of starting a new thread, I'm just bumping this....

Where are you planning on going if you need to bug out? I know some are in Florida. Truthfully, I dont know where I would go from here. I guess I would have to access the situation and go from there. If theres a fire heading my way from the East, then I would probably go Northwest (just so I dont get cornered)

So, what are your plans? Where are you going to go? What if that place isnt available once you get there? (Relative could be out of town or bugged out themselves)

Whats plan A? B? C?

I dont have those planned out yet....

In the event that we would need to get out of the metropolitan area, my wife and I (and our cat) would go pick up my mom and then get down to my wifes parents place in rural MO. They live in 50ish acres and it's fairly protected by land and is pretty self sufficient from a food and water stand point.

My first place is to my department. Our PD is relatively new and we have a lot of open rooms available. In the event of a major emergency, we're all subject to call-in for city-wide emergency management.

After that, it's Up North. My wife's family has a couple cabins on lakes. That's a big asset for us, since they're a couple hours away from the metro area and relatively remote. The lakes are an asset for water and food subsistence.

It depends on the situation. My wife and I have a primary meeting location if we are separated and cannot get back to the house. We have a back-up location if we don't see each other there after 24 hours (assuming we cannot communicate). My disaster kit has laminated topographical maps of the local area and street maps that will allow us to navigate to wherever we may need to go.

My firstchoice is to stay put, rather than leaving the house. If for some reason we were forced to evacuate we have a location in mind in Georgia that would be our primary destination.

Okay give me an example where that happened in white suburbia

I saw a great twilight zone episode where a neighbor shot another neighbor who was suspected of being an alien.

Anyways good thread - good discussion
