Smile 323/328 Headers for Sale - CHEAP

Ok. so i bought ebay headers and installed them on my car. Will have been on the car a total of about 10 days. I am pulling them on sunday (3/28/2010) due to emissions, and since i drive my car a lot i prefer it quite.

You definitely feel a bit of a bump in power above 4K but i am completely happy living without them and passing emissions.

New they Cost $98 shipped thanks to ebay, looking for $70 local pickup, and maybe $80 shipped - not sure how much actual shipping is, prefer local obviously. this way teh money you save from ebay you can use to buy new exhaust manifold studs.

thanks for looking.

Would I need new gaskets also? And why would I need bolts, doesn't it come with all the hardware?

welll i have a buyer pending, but to inform you.

they come with gaskets, but the oem gaskets are better andin most cases can be resued - they are attached to the heat shield and cost about $40 a piece from the dealer. i simply reused mine. the bolts however do not come with any header kit ever. especially not with one for $100 bucks.

you can reuse teh header studs and nuts, which i did but it makes the job about a million times harder. pay the dealer about 20 bucks for new studs and nuts and save yourself about 3 hours of time

so here is the skinny:

1. they make a lot of noise under acceleration, note i use the word noise, it does not sound particularly sexy, at least with stock exhaust. after driving quite a few loud cars i appreciate the serenity of the BMw

2. i autox my car pretty frequently, while i did not autox with headers on, i did some shenanigans at night after i put them on. to be completely absolutely honest (note there is not dyno sheet) the car looses a bit low end torque (easier to stall the car if you just put in the clutch with no gas) and you get a bit of a boost over 4K, its not necessarily a power boost, more like the torque curve flattens a bit.

3. i tried it and didnt like it, i cant speak for other people. you may try it and love it, doesnt make me right and doesnt make you wrong, for $95 its worth a try, i am glad i got the experience. I am going to try to get some money back and go with an SSK as the next mod.

hope this helps

lol having the dealer hardware and a friend helps a lot. and another note there was some idiot that ground down his motor mount to make the headers fit.

NEVER GRIND A MOTOR MOUNT!!!!!!

the proper thing to do is jack up the engine until the motor mount fits under the headers.

but i started at 10 am and finished around midnight. would have been much faster with new hardware.

it is your car and you you can do whatever you want to it but remember it is a MOTOR MOUNT, ie its job is to hold the motor in place. this is a very important job. simply jack up the motor and you will have no problems putting it back in w/o grinding.

why would you grind when you can simply jack it up?
