Cheap 330xi?

I saw this on Craigslist it looks to be in decent shape but the price kinda throws me off. 2005 330xi $2,500 at 150K, I'm assuming it needs new everything. Is it worth checking out?? I also found a similar 2003 330xi with only 89K at $7,900 but its a 2 hour drive away from me but I might go this weekend. I plan on doing all DIY with maintenance so I wouldn't mind doing a lot of work if I can get it cheap.

Assume that the $2500 dollar Bimmer has Major Problems, quite possibly an overheated motor. I would do a Compression Test on the motor before anything else.

1) CT

2) PPI

That car is a manual swap. You can see the cog in the dash. The Service Engine Soon, DSC, Brake, and ABS lights are on. Fender is mismatched, and idle looks to be way too high.

But for $2500, what can go wrong, right?

There's no such thing as a "cheap BMW."

My Ride: is fast.
Op, ask for a photo of the dash. Mainly the screen in the center bottom. For all we know, unless we have the vin, it could be a 5/6 speed swap, or a replaced cluster. Seems to me like a replaced cluster. If that's the case, then the miles are not correct.
Edit: From the looks of it, it was a swap. The hill descent control gives it away

What about the hill descent gives it away?

I like it, be prepared to throw down a lot of money and wrench on it to get it up to speed but you could have a pretty good deal. I would be concerned about the cog in the dash - haven't seen that one yet..

Otherwise, its a 330xi with the 6 speed and sport/winter/premium package. Could be a good gamble, but a gamble still.

I asked about the hill descent above because I think iowna330xi is suggesting that only the autos came with hill descent? My 6 speed has it.

From the looks of it, just some guy that buys and flips cars at his house.

I wouldn't really want to buy an e46 from someone who knows nothing about them and lists 1 sentence for the whole ad.

I think $1,000 would be a fair price if you have good mechanical and debugging skills.

Huh. I thought only xi autos came with hdc. Guess it also came for xi manuals. The cog usually means that there is a problem with the auto trans, but that 6 speed doesnt seem to automatic. So the cluster had to be replaced, and thus giving a false mileage. As you can probably tell, I no longer have an xi. op unless he will let you scan the car, perform a compression test, I would probably stay away from the car. If you have the correct software, you can find the true mileage of the car from other modules.

To start: BRAKE+ABS+DSC lights on. $2500 BMW with a swapped transmission and no paperwork to prove the maintenance. Anything can go wrong. When a posting doesn't include a license plate pic or at least a VIN number it usually raises a red flag, at least for me.

And yes, that smells like a flipper.

If you like playing Russian roulette, buy it.

I found this on an old thread. I never knew

Manual 330's produced late 2003 and going forward had 6 speed manual.

All e46 330's produced earlier got 5 speed manuals.

I have hill decent on my 5 speed that was not a swapped.
