Oh dear, so battery not working (so you cant open windows with key). And lock not working (you need new door lock actuator). And no spare key i presume. Do what I did - cut open the key up and replace battery to gain access...! Good luck.

Ps I think it was a cr2020 battery

I doubt the problem is with the door lock actuator, but it could be. However, this is no real concern at this moment.

IF the central locking button in the console works and the GM5 relay(s) are not a problem, you can try an get a tool or someone to help with pressing the central locking button one time and hopefully you will hear the door lock actuator double lock unlock. This will not cause the lock pin in the door to pop up, it just released the double lock.

Then you need to have a tool to grab the inner door handle and pull it once, the door lock pin should pop up. Once the door lock pin is in the UP position, you can then pull the outside door handle and open the door.

If this does not work, IF the car has fold down rear seats, you can possible break out the inner tail light near the trunk lock and then unlock the trunk with the emergency trunk release cable if the car has this.

The problem is if you try to replace the battery in the key, you could damage the EWS circuit in the key, then you are screwed if you are able to open the car. The batteries in these keys rarely fail and you have no idea if the wireless circuitry for the keyfob is still functional and if the key is still synced to the car.

If all else fails, it is time to break a window, do not break the small piece of glass in the rear door if your car has this!

Good luck to you, I ALWAYS tell EVERY BMW owner they need at least 2 working keyfobs, but few listen!

Do you think a cable snapped?
Stuck closed door is one of my nightmare scenarios.
I sometimes just leave my doors unlocked in the winter.
I keep nothing in my car except an ice scraper.

No cable snapped, it is the door cylinder lock link, it is DESIGNED to be weak to thwart break ins.

Buying another key at this point is NO help. The keyfob will not be programmed to the car.

I had a customer car towed in one time and the battery went dead in the parking lot. We ended up having to Jack the car up, remove the starter and apply 12v to the leads that went to the starter motor so the key fob would work. What a pain in the ass BMW.

Opened the boot with the key opened the back seats and climbed through started car and door pins popped up. Only problem now is I can't lock the doors as the only key hole is on the drivers door and I broke it this morning with it being froze and the key fob even with a new battery does not work!!! But hey least I can drive it to work in the morning thankfully thanks for advice everybody. One question left what damage do yous think I've done to make the key hole lock not work it turns but no affect on the locking system?

Should have been able to open the trunk with the key and just jumped the battery in the trunk unless the car as a Touring!

But also get working keyfob as the door lock link is not designed for everyday use.
