In the market and need some advice

Hey guys I'm in the market for an all-around everyday driver and was looking into a 325 it or xi wagon. I figure this way I can interchange parts with my coupe if need be and I just really like the car.

I've found 2 diff cars currently and would be open to more suggestions as well. I'm really looking for a manual AWD which is why I'm not really siding with the 325it model. but either way I've found one 325it with sports package that I know is pretty rare and an xi with no sports package but awd of course. So the questions is which should I go with? the xi has 120k and the 325it has 140k and both want around 9k for them. (kbb claims 6-7 for them, but i do know these might be rare to find just as well)

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you're looking for awd then I think your decision is made. As long as all other things are equal.

yeah the non-awd has a premium and sport where as the other doesn't have either. I'm curious though if AWD is really worth it? I mean i've never owned one and this would really be my winter car and hopefully my everday commuter to and from the navy base, so I guess I'd like to know if someone has an 325it or similar if its a great car, cause then i'm sold the other way ha. - but yeah thanks for the input

You're in Northern VA? You don't need AWD.

well in Indiana right now but I see your point, ok well I'm leaning more towards the it now seeing how i might get a transfer to Florida next fall sometime

Unless you live in a part of the world that gets more than a few solid weeks of massive snow, Its not worth compromising for a 4x4 in your situation.

If you want a 4x4, buy a truck.

also at 140k are there concerns here that I should consider at so many miles? Stuff like the chain, the water pump? anyone got one of these at high miles

I have owned RWD and AWD. AWD sits up higher and handles differently, but still very good. Plus, over 60k, BMW AWD is a lot more expensive to maintain than RWD. I had a friend who had one of the first stick shift E46 AWDs and it had problematic clutch. Of course, AWD sticks better in the wet and snow, but I drove a 330i RWD with all seasons up to Ithaca, NY in the driving snow without problems. I just bought a 2005 325iT and purposefully looked for the RWD. My new ride has 18K miles and cost $15K. It handles beautifully. Just get snow tires and summer tire sets and drive carefully and rarely in the snow with RWD and you will be fine.
