If you haven't already, take a look a NYX. It has a great 3 year basing chart that's starting to move up plus it's paying a 3.7% divdend

quick question, what does it mean when people are saying a stock has a "low float"?

It means that there are relatively few shares issued to be traded pubicly.

The managers might hold a large percentage or it could be a small company with very few shares outstanding.

Either way, it means that any news , good or bad; can move the stock dramatically up or down.

It also means that the spread on buying and selling might be broader than it wojuld be on a more popular stock.

I think many of these would be 'penny stocks'.

Thanks for the quick response! I've got a few shares of Ivax Diagnostics (IVD) and it just received FDA approval a few days ago, and everyone keeps talking about how it's a low float and how they are waiting on news, confused the hell out of me :p . Thanks for the info!

Being a low float doesn't really have anything to do with the success of the company. But....it could mean that if they get approval that the share price could jump dramatically (stastically speaking ).

It could also mean that if it jumps high, raising the share price that they might be inclined to have a stock split down the road. This generally benefits current stockholders.

Dcha, what's your over all position on the market, I've been taking a more conservative approach. I'm about 37% cash right now, up from about 4% 3 weeks ago.

30% cash position. The trend is still there. The bid is still there. Just waiting for more setups.

I've been looking at it also, I'm still not going to buy around $19 I think theres too much risk. They have disappointed 2 quarters in a row, I think it is going lower.

Yeah, some speculate $15. Now that seems kind of scary. Lots of competition. Juniper is soaring.

Borders? (BGP) It's at like $.25? Close to bankruptcy- anyone following the news? Man, I can't stand what the Internet and new tech is doing to some of my favorite companies. I wish people still bought books and records.

Borders sat there and watched the industry change. Barnes and nobles recognized the future and changed. Can't fall alseep at the wheel.

Yeah and they transferred their internet operations to amazon (who sell Kindle). How dumb can they get?
