So 1 lug holds the wheel on? I'm guessing there's a conversion for this? Or do you have to swap out the entire hub? I'm still intrigued by this concept. 1 lug doesnt seem as safe as 5, although for racing purposes I bet it makes changing tires a lot faster.

Here is the hub on my car. why is it not safe I run a locking spring so the wheel can't come off if the wheel was to come loose.

That's pretty cool looking. But I'm curious about a few things. You say you're running a locking spring so the wheel can't come off if it were to come loose. What exactly is that? The reason I say it doesnt seem safe, is you have 1 centric "lug" holding your entire wheel on. So only 1 lug has to come loose (vice 5 normal lugs) so that's an 80% difference. Also, since the lug is in the center of the wheel, (vs being in a star pattern) as the driver's side wheel rotates and the hub spins, wouldn't that put some sort of pressure on the lug, which would fight it loose? This would only occur on the driver's side as lugs are right-hand thread so all lugs on the passenger side would actually become tighter (in theory). Also, this would have a better chance of occuring while making a left turn, as the lateral G-force is pushing the car to the right, which is in turn applying more pressure on the drivers side lugs. I'm sure this isn't the case, and the locking springs have some effect on this, which is why I'm curious how it works.

Think of a motorcycle axle.. one nut and then a pin thru it to lock prevent it backing off...
if the nut doesnt back off, what could be so unsafe about it?
its not different than a regular setup... a bunch of little nuts/bolts substituted for 1 big ass nut, covering the same area torque to a calculated spec to make it the same as the 4 or 5 it replaces, then a locking pin behind it to ensure it doesnt come off if it somehow backs off...

its perfectly safe, the GT3s had this option before and i believe they all have it standard on the current gen... The McLaren F1 has this setup as well as the enzo...

dont see whatthe big deal is and why people are freaking out... its fukin legit man
