Rear shock mount replacement questions

I intend to replace my rear shocks and shock mounts in my 2002 330Ci E46 convertible. Have any of you replaced rear shocks/mounts on a convertible? It looks easy to access the top nuts with the top partly up, but don't see an easy way to install the reinforcement plates thatI see recommended often. Here are a few questions?

1. Do I need the reinforcement plates or should I go with the Rogue Engineering RSM's, cut in the "C" shape and inserted through the wheel well as illustrated on Rogue's website? Anyone tried it?
2. Should I save money and go with OEM or Meyle HD RSM's and no reinforcement plates? Are there other recommended RSM's?
3. Will the Rogue mounts be a harsher ride?
4. When replacing the shocks can I get by without a spring compressor since I'm not replacing springs? I have jackstands and a floor jack to keep tension on the axle.

The car is a daily driver and I don't expect to do any competion. I expect to install Koni FSD's when they are available.

I just ordered Meyle HD kit for UUC $55 to replace my Turner mounts which are harsh because of the racing configuration=solid. If retaining some comfort is important for your daily driver, go with the Meyle HD. I have Bilstein and H&R sports currently with one Turner mount and one OEM mount. The difference is noticable.
