zhp pilot: Kicker L7 and JVC Arsenal Custom Install

I had this installed last week prior to 4ngiefest but I'm finally getting around to posting some pics. After many many months of debating I finally decided to go with a 10" Kicker Solo-Baric L7 and a JVC Arsenal KS-AR8001D running 700W RMS at 4 ohm. The L7 is a 2 ohm DVC rated at 600W RMS wired in series. The ported box was custom built by Freemans Stereo Video at their Cornelius, NC location.

First and foremost, this ish hits unbelievably hard and the gain on the amp is only at 30%. The idea and box design is a joint effort between Victor at Freemans and myself. It partially creates that secondary box on the outside of the sub, similar to having it sealed in the trunk, while still letting the bass through. The port fires directly into the cab and plays a crucial role in the overall sound and quality. When it's turned up, you can even feel the air from the port on your neck while sitting in the front seats. If you're looking for the best bang for the buck custom box, this is it. The concept is simple and the box can be easily built.

Very clean, did you already have a ski pass? I've been kicking around the idea of a sub for a while but can't decide on what I want.

Yeah, I had a ski pass. In hindsight, I wish I would have went with a JL W7.

The biggest draw back is the weight, but I love my system, and your system looks awesome!

The weight gain is negligible. The box, sub and amp weighs ~60lb total. I removed the spare tire, jack and wheel chuck which is ~35lb total. So my net gain is only 25 lb. I could care less about 25 lb especially when you consider the gross weight fluctuation based on fuel alone can be over 100 lb.

Are you referring to the contoured panel with the amp on it? Plain is what I was going for. Originally I thought about installing the amp on the side of the box and completely out of sight. I may still do this. Do you have any suggestions?

I can't see the pics here at work but by the way you describe the box and build is similar to what I had in the WB when I had the system built. I had them port two 8" subs through the rear deck which produced excellent bass that was a little tighter...I really liked it!

It seems like it takes up an awful lot of space for such a small sub and amp. To each their own I suppose. Install looks very professional though.

I meet up with Justin the other day & had some lunch & I can definitely attest to how hard this system hits... Really surprising it's firing forward, 1 10" hits that hard....
