Saw a jet black E46 M3 at AMC today. Had an imola sticker and a baby seat in the back. Anyone on here?
I parked across from you.

the yellow oil light came on once yesterday after i shutted off the engine. checked the oil level, just a lil bit above the minimum line on the dipstick. Havent done the oil change since i purchase in Sept from the dealership.

Anyone know if im buring oil? or there is a leak? or the dealership used the wrong oil kind? ANyways the has has 68k miles and almost 3k miles away from the next oil change according to the inspection reminder.

what should i do?

also i came across with this funny question. So we dont need to warm up the car in cold, juxt drive off immediately at moderate speed? Course i have been warming up my car since its cold out. Hope this doesnt make my oil disappear?

Its normal for BMW is burn oil. Keep track of how much its burning in terms of amount and miles after your next oil change. If there was oil leak you would know. I would take the car back to the dealer and say wtf, you bought it 2.5 months ago. I'm guessing you bought it from BMW of Minnetonka?

Don't let your car idle in the winter, its bad for it. It even says so in the manual. I give it a minute before I start moving.

I'd take it back and see what they can do. Because it should burn that much oil in a matter of couple months. You said you got the oil changed when you bought it in september? how many miles have you driven it?
Also, go drive the car for 10-15 minutes normally and let it cool for 5 minutes and recheck level. Checking oil level on a cold engine doesn't say much.
P.S Mobil1 oil is perfectly fine. Its a good synthetic oil that many people use.
I personally only use Castrol or OEM.

i have put almost 5000 miles since that. and i think they did the oil change before i found the car on the internet.

but with 5w30 oil, is it the problem?

Yup thats not normal. Go get it checked out.
Mobil1 is ok. The type of oil isn't the problem.

5w30 might be the issue. M1 5w30 is NOT a recommended oil. I bought my car from a Lexus dealership and it burned oil like a mofo before I found out that they put in the wrong oil. Changed it to M1 0w40 and it hasn't burned a drop since.

Just do the reccommended tire pressure. Should be the same.

PS, when are we going to have an MN sliding around an empty parking lot party?
