i need help asap!
so a couple days ago my car ran fine for the day, shut off the car at the lake went fishing for a couple hours, came back started the car...let it sit idle for about a minute all of a sudden it starts to shutter and shake, rpm was constant...it threw me a cel, it drives fine but just weak. i got the codes read and i got these codes...p0012, p0014, p0300 (misfires random cylinders...) as far as my research goes, it might have something to do with the vanos solenoid? but from the service records, both inlet and outlet vanos systems were replaced back in october 2010 from motorwerks bmw....not even a year old yet...any inputs or thoughts to why my cars doing this?

ignition coils were all tested using that diy video...all of them seem to be good, so are spark plugs....

What did you have before and would you share a comparison of things that are better (and worse) about the M3?

I might sell the M and get an e90, like a 335xi coupe, but I'm worried that I may have regrets after all is said and done. Thanks.

I've only had the M for about a week so I don't really have a true comparison between the two.. I had a 2006 330i before and it was great. I liked the 330i a lot as far as everyday driving, handling and looks but it just got a little boring after a while. The M, in my opinion, is a better driving experience. It hugs the road a lot more, obviously faster than my 330i and gives you the feeling like you have full control of every aspect of the car. The only downside to the M, in comparison to the 330i, is the overall ride quality (for obvious reasons).

Unless you're whipping around corners or tracking the 335i, I don't think you'll be too disappointed with the move but my personal preference is with the M at this point.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, I also had a 330 before (coupe) and had the same thoughts - liked the power better but not the ride.

Sure, I'll let you know if I get serious about another car, but I have been wishy-washy on this for over a year. Wife wants me to get a 4-door/better family car, but I like coupes. I really want to keep the M3 and get something like a 5 series for family/winter, but I don't have a 3 car garage. And if I got a house with a big garage, I probably couldn't afford the 3rd car. Dilemma.
