Any thoughts on 2lb 12" Macbook w/ Retina for $1299? (serious)

http://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/macbook/gold-256gb

Any thoughts on this 2lb laptop w/ 9 hours of battery life? Need something more extensive than my tablet to carry around. Looks like a new generation of processors will be avail in 2-3 months, simply tired of the wait and need one now!

I'd pass, the Core M is not that powerful of a chip. Then again, it depends on what exactly you'll be using the computer for.

Go to an apple retail store and try typing on the keyboard. Also I might just be crazy here but 8GB of ram and a mobile processor CPU today just doesn't cut it when doing work on a laptop. IMO I'd ante up for a Macbook Pro 13/15 Inch.

Granted this is for me: a browser tab whore who likes () running statistical analysis on his work flights for competitions.

OP I'd recommend just getting a keyboard for your iPad (?) and waiting for iOS 9 to come out. Microsoft has some phenomenal office applications now for iOS, and try using Mercury browser instead of Safari. On another note I'm shocked by how often I use my iPhone now because of these apps.

What do you need to do? If all you need is to surf the internet, check your email, and do some random word processing then I'd suggest getting a Chromebook for $200 and spend the other $1100 on hookers and coke.

Aside from the cons already listed, it only has ONE USB type C connector. The charging, connecting of anything you want to use, and anything that's not plugging in headphones is done through the one port. And since USB type c is just now rolling out, you're going to have to buy the adapter that only apple makes. I like apple, but this is just them slapping their logo on something for the sheep to buy. Skip it and buy a used MBA.

i don't see the point of this computer at that price point. my macbook pro 13" is crazy small and crazy light and it will blow that 12" macbook out of the water in absolutely every aspect. in a bag, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two computers based on weight. they're both so light.

UPDATE: Walked into the Apple store and purchased a 12" MB in Gold - haven't had any issues whatsoever, carries a nice 2-week return policy should the power prove to be insufficient.

I have the upper end one, it replaced a 2009 15" MBP with an SSD. It is an incredible computer. The rMBP and MBA feel ancient next to it. The display is fantastic, the keyboard is plenty big, and the footprint makes it very easy for me to work on flights. The battery lasts as long as advertised, and I've noticed no lag (it benchmarks a bit faster than my old computer).

The rMBP is certainly more powerful, but it's an old, heavy, clunky design (by comparison). The MBA is a good value but has obvious pitfalls. I don't believe another laptop is sold that is similar in weight and has a 512gb SSD, which I need.

I want one, but since I got screwed on the first year MBA, and then the first year 11" MBA, I will wait until next year to see what improvements they make.
