Saints Fan Intercepts Trophy Ball

Real Classy.

http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/po...-by-saints-fan

Quote:
Midway through the third quarter, Cincinnati tight end Jermaine Gresham caught a 1-yard touchdown pass that put the Bengals up 19-3 when he jogged over to the end zone wall. As he approached, two female Bengals fans -- one dressed in a black A.J. Green jersey and the other in an orange Bengals T-shirt -- had just jogged down the section's steps to the edge of wall. They were excitedly pleading for the ball when Gresham complied.

But what none of them, not Gresham nor the women asking for the ball, had expected was the male Saints fan lurking nearby in the first row.

As the ball left Gresham's hands, the Saints fan, identified by the Cincinnati Enquirer as a man named Tony Williams, leaped in front of the two women. As the one in the Green jersey -- identified by the Enquirer as Versailles, Kentucky, native Christa Barrett -- caught the flip, Williams snatched the ball from her. In the same motion, he sat back down, putting the ball underneath his right arm.

It stayed there the rest of the game.

She did receive a game ball from the Saints organization, but I would love to see Tony Williams not get season tickets next year.

Another case of trying to be politically correct by giving a second football.
This person was aggressive and rude. He should have returned the ball. By not doing so, he should have been made to return the ball and then escorted from the Stadium and banned for life.

I don't see it as politically correct as it is damage control.

Bengals player makes a TD in the Superdome and tosses the ball towards a fan in a Bengals jersey. Fan in Saints outfit moves in and takes ball. Bengal fan pleads for ball, but lets it go and goes back to seat without incident. All on national TV.

Race and gender aside, the fan's actions at a home game do reflect on the image of the team and the organization wanted to distance themselves from such a dick move. It will be interesting to see how much attention Mr. Williams receives at the next home game.

The player was clearly giving the ball to the girl. The man STOLE it.
Let's not dance around it... He STOLE it.

If I went to hand you my cell phone and some guy reached in and grabbed it, that would be a crime.

The stadium officials should have taken the ball from him then had him ejected/arrested

Media will go gentle on the dude because he's old and black. This happens all the time, and if they are young and white (whether male or female), the media and public lets them have it.

To be fair, while race shouldn't matter, age should. We don't know if the guy has all his faculties.

King of Zulu decrees it was Mardi Gras rules:

"He tossed the ball," said Williams, a Saints season ticket holder in the end zone since 1968. "It's fair game, to me. My whole mindset was my grandson."

Williams, 70, served as King Zulu in 2002. His organization is famous for decorated coconuts, one of the most sought-after throws of the Carnival season.

Definitely stole it....look at the facial expressions....especially of the man's buddy on the left side of the frame. He knows the ball was hijacked from the intended recipient. No surprises here.

Arrested? He is an asshole but you need to relax, I don't think there are any grounds for arresting him here. Give her the ball, kick him out of this game. Done.

Don't worry be happy JJ.

as far as I am concerned, that football player stole the ball from the NFL, its rightful owner, by throwing it into the stands. arrest him. ban him. good shoot.

It's a fineable offense per the collective agreement between the players and owners.

I believe it's somewhere around $5500 or so.
