http://www.forbes.com/sites/timworst...re-now-single/

So do we blame Feminism, and "sex and the city"?

"Some 124.6 million Americans were single in August, 50.2 percent of those who were 16 years or older"

Idk how to quote the article, buttttt 62.3 million of the singles are under the age of 16? Sounds like a stupid article to me.

The sentence is correct. 124.6 million Americans are single. This represents 50.2 percent of the people who are aged 16 or older in the US.

It's not a well-crafted sentence, but it's technically correct.

I think it's odd that they start counting people at 16 as "adults."

Ok, I see how it's correct, poor wording choice/placement though.

Yeah, I'm appalled at how poor some "journalistic" writing has become in the last few decades.

Do you think it's because people don't want to pay for it online?

Best comment I've seen so far:
By Pyrtyn
"Of course they are.Who would marry a stupid Feminist believing Western idiot woman that screams they are equal to their exact opposite. They enter the military, get raped because they are not equal and then call the cops to fix it,but all the while still thinking they are a mans equal after getting their loud mouth idiot arses kicked.
Lets move bricks girls, then count them. Oh but then they'll just omit that point as they are patently dishonest and purely self serving as well.
So now the children are raised by strangers and suffer accordingly, the men are displaced and the entire social fabric is weakened because woman are the subjects of an intentional attack because they are created by nature to be more open to suggestion and Eriksonian hypnosis so the species can be maintained.Perhaps when the all out War for the global super state and consequently the mass rapes start, they will get it, and start to value their men folk again.
Western woman are more trouble than they are worth.Give me a decent God fearing wife and I will treat her like a Queen, but I will not even waste my time on another Western woman for any kind of permanent relationship. Sex in the city shop o holic morons that think a liwlow sewn into their tits makes them attractive, and sexual liberation is screwing 13 black guys.
They are so stupid and boring I've given up on most of them."

Single ≠ not married. They only took into account people without a husband/wife, not people in a long term relationship.

Bloomberg, the Chicago tribune, and lots of other credible outlets reported the same thing: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/n...910-story.html

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that anyone can set up a website and compete with traditional journalistic outlets. It used to be that publishing the news was really costly and so the barriers to entry were quite high. Now anyone can jump in, and so the general quality has gone down. Some low-budget news sites are good, some are terrible, and most are just mediocre.

That's also the reason why you can find shrill, ridiculous screeds about just about any political point of view these days and then post them as if they had some sort of journalistic credibility.

I'm not saying that the underlying story is false. I'm just saying that the quality of the writing is not particularly high.

Cohabitation does not = marriage, therefore, those people are single.

This seems strange to me, but at the same time it makes sense if more women would WANT to be single. Maybe I am in the wrong crowd, but it seems like younger "women" are more independent and more content with having fun with guys than being in a stable relationship. They thrive on the drama and variability of the YOLO lifestyle.

But if you asked those people if they were single they would not reply in the affirmative, hence why I think the study needs to be taken with a large grain of salt.

Every once in a while I'll have a couple show up in my office to do estate planning and inform me that they have been "common-law married" for 25 years or more. It's always sort of interesting to let them know that there's no common-law marriage in CA and that in the eyes of the law they're just shacking up. Sometimes this leads to an awkward silence for a few moments.
