tattoos and scars

so Im drawing up a sleeve I want well actually a chick friend at work is drawing it since I can barely draw stick people.
Im planning on 2 full arms and probably chest and back by the time Im done but always seem to run out of time in the winter and im far too busy in the summer so yea anyways my question is I crashed my downhill bike last year on a shale rock bed and scared my arm pretty good. just more like a handful of slash marks. I know you see scar coverups all the time but do they fade over time? since this will be a big piece I dont want the same 4" needing work on a regualr basis or fading compared to the rest if it. any color that the scar tissue will hold better than others?

Haha thanks man.
I'm more curious how ink and scar tissue go on the long term you always see scar cover ups but never a year or 2 later picture.
And I'd rather ask the all knowing e46OT than an artist because their answer will always be slightly slightly biased.
I'm looking more for experience.
The artist I'm looking at is a good artist as well I'm not doing the basement of my house kinda deal.

I have two tattoos, and am thinking about a third, larger one.

Full on, dead stop......if you can not trust the person putting SOMETHING PERMANENT ON YOUR BODY with a simple response to a simple question then you should find another tattoo artist. Period.

Please tell me one says "no ragrets".

+1 on the response though. Gotta find someone you can trust. My friend also crashed his bike and got a few scars. Took him a few weeks ago to get his first one while I got some work done and the artist didn't seem too concerned. Ymmv though.

Its not that I don't trust the artist. I've met him but I haven't had a consultation yet. He's a gifted artist with an impressive portfolio of different styles of images and what I want is similar to his style.
But just because this individual says he hasn't had issues with scar tissue and fading doesn't mean much. Maybe his past clientile weren't picky, didn't care , not confrontational ect.
I haven't asked him yet I just like to be semi informed first.

If you have to get tat ideas from Pintrest, you are trying too hard and shouldn't get it done.

Then again, I'm not a fan of tats unless they have serious significance (kid passing away, something to that effect).

JMHO, which in this thread is worthless

Tell him your specific concerns and ask if he can refer you to clients he did work on a few years ago that would be willing to let you check out their bidnez?

if tattoo people work that way or not.

Easiest is to upload it to youtube and then just post the link in the mtb thread. Then we can cringe right along with you.

If you need more specific info, lmk.

A good tattoo artist will give you the factual information and tell you exactly what to expect based on what they know and what their experience has been. Tattoo artists are putting their reputation on your body, and good reputable ones won't do anything that makes them look bad or that makes you look bad. You should be asking your tattoo artist these questions first and foremost, provided that they've been doing it for a number of years and legitimately have the experience to draw from. Don't get some guy who's been tattooing for 3 years to answer the question.

Your skin and the depth and severity of the scarring is a huge factor in the long term quality of the tattoo. There are ink colors that do well over time, and some that generally wear out quickly. This is true for regular tattoos and for scars and anything else. Black ink is obviously going to be the best. Other colors like brown, purple and blue tend to last a long time as well. Yellow, green and red can shift color over time and lost saturation, and white "wears out" the fastest. I have a half-sleeve on my right arm and it has some white parts. My former artist (she moved to AZ) is a very highly regarded artist and she was upfront about the white needing touch-up in the future far sooner than any other part of the tattoo.
