I just found a Specialized Hardrock Sport minus it's fork and headset for $50. Thinking about picking it up and then scavenging parts off it for the bike Ill get in China. Are the components/frame on this bike any decent and have I stumbled upon some great craigslist deal or would I be paying a fair amount for a pile of junk?

Specs on the Specialized- http://www.bikepedia.com/quickbike/B...port&Type=bike

every component on that bike is 100% worthless... it's all bottom of the barrel shimano / no-name stuff. The only thing worth considering might be the frame, but only if it's somewhat light and has disc brake mounts.

The frame is the only thing I don't need unfortunately. Thanks for the heads up.

Lots of trying-on of helmets from different mfgs. May require trips to an lbs and a big box store. Dont be afraid to keep trying helmets even after youve tried one that feels ok.

Also, if you wear anything under the helmet (I wear a Headsweats Topless), try the helmets on while wearing it.

i swear by cratoni helmets, I'm not sure if they sell these in the u.s., but they are german engineered and I hardly notice mine when i wear it, great cooling properties, very lightweight and great quality:

A buddy of mine rodes one. Its a very versatile bike, you can ride everything from cross country to downhill and dirtjumps. The spec looks pretty good too!

Obviously its not going to be great as its not an XC bike. But you won't hate the bike too much on the up hill climbs. I've ridden the frame before and its not that bad.

How are you getting it for $850? Used/Craigslist? Nice bike for the price.

You have to try the helmets on. I went into the store with my eyes set on a Bell helmet, but every one I tried felt bad to me. I ended up with a Giro that feels great, but a little heavier.

At 3:33, looks like the dude in the lead nearly skids off the ridge.

Wish the quality was better. But I was for most of the vid.

I'm considering picking up MTB as a weekend activity. I've been doing a bit of research and saw the Trek 820/3500 as being affordable and reliable.

I have a few pretty pertinent questions for my fellow e46 fanatics.

1. With the front wheel off, will the bike fit in my e46 sedan's trunk?
2. Is the listed prices at local bike dealers generally higher than the MSRP?

My Ride: What else?
1) I couldn't get my bike to fit in my Coupe trunk unless I folded the rear seat, took off the front wheel AND removed the bike saddle (I don't know if Sedans have bigger trunks). I guess it also depends on what size bike frame you're riding, mine is pretty big.

2)Usually lower IME
