I think you're right with them stuffing it between.

Is there any way to mount the fan to the shroud? I'll look at mine this evening.

not really... i looked at that with mine (sorry no pic right now) but even the 16" fan does not totally fill the shroud opening... maybe a 17.5" or 18" diameter opening is what it is... so direct mounting would not be a good solution.

after some more fussing with it, i think i can trim a hole in the lower portion of the shroud and retain much of the rigidity of the shroud, so i am okay with that.

now what i am focusing on is the mounting of the fan to the rad, and then the shroud over that.

first i've ordered up four of the aforementioned SPAL straps that i can use to mount the fan to the rad outside flange/lip at the top and bottom. i will do this by drilling 4 holes (2 top and 2 bottom) in the flange and either attach the straps with bolts or rivets.

then i will notch the shroud in those four locations so that the straps can pass and the shroud an still fit flush to the rad.

as for wiring... i won't be using a thermostat or any automated on/off mechanism. i'll just directly wire it (with an inline 30A fuse) to an 'always on' power source and through a dash-mounted switch that i will turn on shortly after starting the car and off a few mins after i have parked it.

Post pics when you have it all done, I'm intrigued... I have mine wired like yours with a switch in the ashtray.

btw; i just had a pseudo-chat with James Clay on that build thread about their fan/rad setup, and he is just using the zip-tie mounts... but he doesn't have as heavy of a fan on that car... so, looks like i'll be pioneering this one solo.

i'll post pics of the process when i start it... which likely won't begin until i receive the bracket/straps later this week.

oil cooler is totally separate and below the radiator, so it should be unaffected.

Just got off the phone with Grant from BBB, he's nearly convinced me to build my GTS cage now
i'll be running numbers tonight, but if i do go that direction i'll be replacing a lot of interior bits for racecar prep.
a summary of items that i'll be looking to sell are:

BBB rollbar - Brandon has dibs
Racetech RT1000 seats (TWO)
Schroth Hybrid-II 6-pt harnesses (TWO)

any interest locally ?

My Ride: is Stage 2 AWD!
Found an SRT guys, it's in Chandler, AZ though so I'm going to be speaking with the dealership about making a deal and getting all the numbers worked out before I go out there. Depending on how much they're going to offer me based on the current setup, I may or may not be parting with some things, IE the UUC TSE3, Rich I'll be in contact with you if that's the case and most likely my m3 rep winters, my CF hood and trunk as well as a few other things.

The SRT I found is white which is a very rare color and looks in prestine shape. A bone stock (which usually means it wasn't owned and trashed by a teen) 2005 with 63,000 miles and a clean carfax with 2 previous owners.

EDIT:

BTW Brandon, the SSR's called, they said they missed me.

yea, well me too... after running my numbers, it really looks tough to make it happen... so more than likely i'll just be upgrading my rollbar to a weld-in half-cage that can be later made into a full-cage.

so you may have your chance yet.

Anyone know who has a white M3 w/ blue-violet angel eyes?
I saw it in my neighborhood at Lincoln and Bayaud (or Elsworth).

Garrett, why would you sell the harnesses? Just reuse them. Same thing with one of the racetech seats, you don't need a H&N seat for the passenger side.

If you convert your current rollbar into a weld in, it'll have to be completely redone. It currently mounts to the weakest parts of the car and really should be welded into the structural (frame rails) of the car...

I believe he'll be selling the rollbar and then have Grant do a weld in.

Any news on the Porsche?
