5 speed swap wont start
I installed all 5spd swap into my e46 touring and it wont start. I wired up the clutch switch correctly. Still no go. Im thinking the EWS is whats keeping me car from starting but am not sure. I check wiring all night with the Bentley.
I also cant code for some reason. My e46 wont code with the bmw gt1. Also my peake wont connect. I traced all its wiring and it all checks out. Im thinking that this issue might of been around since before the swap. Any ideas, Im losing my mind with this car. Little side note: I can pop the clutch to start the car. I heard there is a way to jump connecters on the transmission harness to make the car run with pout coding. I really just need the CEL off and ABS, DSC to work. I can live with the Gear light until i can get the coding problem fixed. |

I hear you when you said you wired up the clutch correctly. But, have you tried bypassing the switch completely by connecting the wires directly? Chas

^^^ If he hasn't coded the car yet it won't be looking for the clutch switch, so that's probably not it. I think it has to do with the auto not being 'connected' electronically anymore.

Have you wired the 12V source into the EWS in the Auto tranny's wiring harness yet?

I am going to guess that the fact that the auto tranny isnt giving any kind of signal, the ecu wont allow it to start. I'm new to BMW's but I know that any loss of signal from critical components and the car wont allow itself to start. Try taking it to the dealership and having them reprogram the ecu for 5 speed and start from there.

I have the bmw Software to code. But neither the computer nor the peake reader will actually read the car OBD. Its like the obd is dead. I check its wiring and it appear to me wired right.

I'm not sure about the OBD not working, but in order to start the car before it is recoded (i.e. with the auto tranny no longer electrically connected, but without the manual coding) there is a jumper that must be made in the automatic transmission's harness. Look at post #3 on this thread. Follow his diagram and I think that should work.....

I did an e34 auto to man conversion once, initially I just left the auto gear selector switch in place and in park, it worked ok, but there were no loom mods performed.

hi mate done this a few times is it turning over? if not the auto ews might need an extra live feed. (must be from the inhibitor switch in the auto shifter to tell it not to start unless its in park) this was pin 9 on the e36 that i did, hope it hasnt changed!
did the car run before? have you only changed the gearbox/linkage? good luck |
