Lights/DRLs stay on when car is off/doors open?

Hey Guys,
As I'm sure you'll notice, I'm new here lol. Been trolling and reading a lot but this is post #1 I recently picked up my 1st BMW. '01 325ci. So naturally I stumbled across these beautiful e46 forums I'll get some pictures up soon and what not but I just got her to mechanically sound, next step... aesthetics!
but that's not so much the point of this post..

from my understanding, the 2nd position of the light switch is set as DRLs and turn off when the doors open.. except on mine haha. since, as of right now, I'm still angel eye-less, during daytime I keep my fogs and ambers lit but they stay on/chime at me when I exit the vehicle. can I change this myself and avoid a trip to the dealership?

edit: yes I attempted to search for the answer. but my kept getting side tracked by other interesting **** and couldn't find it.

Welcome to the forum.

DTRL's need to be turned on by software.

Check around see if you can find a good indi shop with a GT1 or Autologic tool that can program DTRL, auto door locks, key memory, etc.

Usually costs about 1 hour of labor.

eh $80 isn't bad. I think I may have to take a trip out there anyway to order a new key. Trunk release works on it, but the remote lock/unlock doesn't, also the central locking buttons aren't working, so it may be something other than the key? (got a great $ on the car though lol)

my local BMW guy (not a dealer, but BMW licensed) did it for free. just a whole list of options. IE: at what speed do the doors lock, DRL's, English vs. Metric.
felt like it was my birthday
If it ain't Dutch it aint much
