cuz they are sexy

as far as i know the 5 speed auto wont actually redline. (from experience in a 330 with m sport package)
Was your transmission working fine? My 328i 5speed redlines all the time, in sport and regular mode.

My 330 has no problem revving to 6750 in auto or sport mode, athough I very seldom take it up there any more. In sport mode, you really have no choice but to redline if you want to seriously accelerate, unless you upshift yourself.

if you have over 250hp or more I would see why you hit revlimiter. But if you dont.....hard to see the point why do it

every day, m-f, after i drop the kids & check the warehouse, i have a 'special' street; no side traffic, generally no cars & no popo=top of 3rd gear and gradual slowdown(light braking) before light.
maybe 1/2 mile? i cover it pretty fast and watching oncoming traffic/lights in rear!
dang!
i'm going to have to go there just to measure it now in four hours!~

never, max torque is 280 Nm @ 1.750 rpm (320d ) so no need to redline it...

Redline the 328i once or week or so, with 270k kms on it. Think it probably needs its vanos seals changed, but even so, 5000+ with the exhaust bypass opened brings a smile.

Of the two E34s we still have, have 300k and 350k kms on them respectively, I've redlined the 350k one (5sp manual) every time I've driven it repeatedly, and even with that mileage the M20 engine doesn't mind it at all. If a BMW six can't handle that over its entire lifetime (with maintenance and warmup) you deserve your money back.

The M20 when it screams does sound better than the twin cam as well.

I haven't redlined my M3 in a long time but whenever I get onto the on ramp going on the highway I will drive it alittle harder. The engine sounds so at 6k or higher and the car just pulls!...

gahh i love that sound!

Typically ill get up to 6k probably once a week (other cars sometimes want to have fun ). Redline is a different story, maybe 1 once a month.
