At $490 I'd do it, but not at $1200+

Tischerbmw has the "kit" on sale for $490 when you type in the part number. I seriously considering buying them.

The cam slightly changes the duration that the intake and exhaust valves are open, allowing more fuel/air into the motor. The effect becomes more apparent at higher RPM's. The ZHP software is different but you have to have a MS45 DME (after 3/03) to load the software. My car and cars prior to build date 3/03 have the MS43 DME. The ZHP software raises the rpm limit from 6,600 to 6,800. The increase in power will be due to the cam duration as the fuel/air ratio won't change. It's monitored by the O2 sensors. If your car is prior to 3/03 you'd need to Shark it to raise the rev limiter + you can go 155+ mph too.

To do the job you'd at least need to purchase a new camshaft cover gasket. When I do motor internals I also religously replace all nuts and bolts with new, just to be on the safe side. Since your going to be "in the motor" this would be an excellent time to visit Besian's site and do the Vanos seals (and a exceptional write-up on getting into the motor that far). While you're at it there is also a known issue with the ZHP camshaft rattling (marbles in your motor). Besian also has a cure for that so get it at the same time and stop it before it starts. It would also be a good idea to replace the camshaft position sensors since they would be extremely easy to get to and fairly cheap. And if you're at a point where it makes sense mileage wise, the tstat and water pump too.

Does anyone know if there is there any way these could be used on the 2.5L engines, M54 or M52tu? I've read the 3.0 cams have a 1mm higher lift and different duration than the M52tu cams, is this a benefit?

The reason I ask is that I'm doing a b30 manifold swap and headers on my 323ci, and was looking into a custom tune after modding is done. Would these cams add hp, torque, or improve the power band with the planned mods and a custom tune? Installation aside, $300 for 10hp is seems reasonable (Schrick cams are better I'm sure, but yes it is only a 323, I just like to learn and I enjoy the car).

What components does this kit include? And how does it differ from the ZHP cam?

The 3.0 liter M54 also has different valve springs to allow for the increased lift.

http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/BMW_docs/m54x5.pdf
CAMSHAFT - The camshaft for the 3 liter M54 is modified with more lift (9.7 mm) and
new valve springs to accommodate the increased lift.

Good to know. 24 new valve springs adds to the cost a bit, if they fit at all. Definitely only worth it if DIY or cheap install. I'll have to keep gathering info.

You won't need valve springs.

Great price with a high install cost otherwise I would be all over getting some zhp cams at that price. $300 is a steal! Sadly I am not Aggie or PEI so I doubt I could do the install
