GPS mounting

also my front endlinks torn apart for fun.

Black zip tie around vent and cord. Tiny S hook and a very tiny fishing line thing to fit under the really small space on back of my TomTom. For those without car equipped...I'm always doing stuff and hate reaching up to windshield...so thought some of you might like it.

I just have mine on the far lower left of the drivers side windshield, works for me. I tried the vent mount thing, but really looked out of place to me. Everyone has something that works for them though.

Not much and hasn't been a distraction. Although it's not in driver's eye on the windshield, it's also not in the driver's eye...if you get my meaning...no blocking of any view.

I'm only scanning it periodically when I use it, or she tells me where to go, so the slight swaying I see more as a g-force meter...and my head sort of does the same thing too!

Easy off and relatively easy on. Oh, I swung the tab of louver zip tie so it's behind the horizontal louver in front...that tab stops it from sliding over more than a 1/2" or so...if that's what you meant...and I bet you did...sorry! Yeah, that tab is enough to hold it against the vert louvers in the back. Relatively small zip tie too...no more than 1/8" wanted it discreet.

...and for you with different colored interiors, white zip tie and sharpie!

Forgot my other zip tie application...on the charger cord for really long trips...okay, not the most elegant, but stores in glovebox easily and doesn't require wrapping over steering wheel...though that does work pretty well.

There was a DIY thread a few weeks ago that showed how to hard mount the GPS in the center vent location. Yours does the trick too!

Hmmm? Missed that...though I will say that I part in places that I don't want evidence that I have something to mount there...gps or otherwise. But, if this other fix leaves as little evidence behind as a random zip tie, I'd be interested in a 'harder mount' that doesn't interfere with any buttons or dials...I think I'm prolly going to stick with what I have...

Anyway, guys with ability to rig S hook on back can give this a shot and back out of it with nothing more than a clip of ziptie...Just saying...I make hardly anything off this!

Sorry, Delmarco, I saw those, and nothing personal, neither does it for me. I'm in the big city pretty often in random spots...like skateboarding places and often see car windows broken into...so I want something very discreet looking...I don't want a plate that does look nice, but also says "I have a gps or radar detector in glovebox," if you know what I mean.

I've actually been thinking just since this thread of mounting it on lowest horizontal louver...would interfere with even less...don't use tapes, lose virtually no vent, comes on and off without a trace in 1-5 secs, and the cost, a trip to local tackle shop or friend/fisherman.

Anyway, I also must say that your rear seat cupholder has been on my list of things to get around to for almost as long as it took you to get to it. I'm not sure I'll have the time before I won't need it...but oil and coolant drips took precedence. Anyway, I'll try to become okay with the fact that my idol, the discoverer of the rear seat cupholder doesn't think my mounting is proper

Oh, mine is lighter too!

Anyway, might work for someone like me...and really, I'm hardly making anything off of this deal from my cut from the fishing folks! I just like simple things that work.

If any of you decide to join my gps cult, please let me know...if I remember, then I'll try to be particularly helpful when you have an issue I have a solution for...that's all I'm saying!

sorry. I didn't mean to thread jack your thread.
I didn't know whether people saw that method or not.

Didn't feel thread jacked...felt publicly humiliated by my hero

Okay, I'm over it! I don't like the glass mount, coz I like to remove that and it's another thing to store...also, now that I think of it, one of my sons sits with me and can operate if it's in the center...but I will say I like the position of the left side window mount...I've got an inspection sticker there anyway, so will have to give that a shot for long trips by myself.

DelM,

You know I really was only kidding...I have a sense of humor that I'm afraid that I'm the only one who understands it! No need for that at all, though...

...and I'm serious...the cupholder was awesome! Anyway, no bad at all...I'm not sensitive about this stuff at all...still though...will send you $2 if you try my idea!

Doug

I still prefer the left of the driver, lower windshield just like one of the pics posted by solidjake. Gives me better vision and not as intrusive. Just my opinion though. I never liked stuff right in the middle of the windshield. I really love my V1 on the left side of the RVM and hardwired as well.

To me, expensive and out of the sight of the driver. I still stand by putting it on the left lower side of the drivers windshield. That is free. Some of these mounts are obnoxious prices.

I put mine in the center console when not in use. I have a Garmin 255WT. I love it.
