whatever you are doing is likely illegal and dangerous. for your well being and safety, do a proper retrofit (something you won't be able to do yourself--minimum $700-$1,000+hours of labor--if not days, and coding) or stay stock.
Putting projectors in is a relatively simple DIY and only takes an hour or two and $150-200

Nothing about properly retrofitting a projector is simple. Have been in the HID modding/retrofitting "game" for over a decade now.

You could do the above but, really, it's not good quality. Nothing compares with the dynamic auto-leveling feature and precision optics and parts found in modern factory-equipped BMWs w/ Xenon.

Don't at all for a second think because a box of parts from DDM tuning on it says "HID" or "Xenon," that it's equal to anything out of the OEMs. No comparison.

No ****. Most people don't want to pay for all the autoleveling stuff. OEMs are $900 each...

I don't know what the big deal is with all this HID nonsense. The standard halogens on these cars are actually quite good and unless the car already had HID's, I wouldn't waste my time or resources with a retrofit.

If you can have an 80% improvement for $150 or a 100% improvement for $1000 there's nothing wrong with taking the 80%. We all know you're a 100% kind of guy but most are happy with the 80%. Personally I don't care about dynamic auto levelling. My halogens certainly don't have it.

Well I'll tell you one thing, I'd rather have a 90% improvement for $350. or a 95% improvement for $500 in the way of proper retrofitted quality projectors AND associated equipment (I'd never buy DDM HIDs again) i have a whole drawer full of the crap!

Retrofitting projectors then slapping in generic HID is like buying authentic BBS CHs then installing Ling Long (yes they exist) tires.

I made sure that when I bought an E46 that it had to have stock stock Xenon (Bosch AL)

Not sure how anyone could ever buy an E46 without it.

Once you have had them, its hard to live without.

I replaced my halogen housings with a set of EE projectors, and albeit it a step up, they were nowhere near as good, as the Dynamic Xenons that I had on my first BMW an 04 X3.
I lived in the middle of nowhere at 10,500 ft elevation, and I must say turning on to a pitch black road, and seeing the light travel with the direction of the car was amazing.

Using EE has only made me more obsessive about perfect adjustment, and defined even cutoff...I can't seem to get the up tick on the right of the projection, to line up on both sides.

So I will definitely spend the extra money for OE, so I can truly upgrade.

Just ordered a new set of 18" staggered wheels, E9X M3 replicas, and a carbon fiber strut tower brace!

Looking forward to getting these installed during the winter months!

I almost ordered a short shift kit as well, but I haven't decided 100% on that. I might try just adding the shorter ZHP shift knob and see how that feels first.

The ZHP knob will be fine, IMO the height of the original shifter with the zhp knob is perfect.
