Exhaust Weight?
Has anyone actually weighed the stock 330 exhaust, from the header back? This would be very good to know in terms of deciding whether to blow $1,000 on a custom lightweight exhaust.

just do it. your custom setup will be lighter than stock. The stock muffler alone weighs 45lbs (I think).

Well duh. But the question is how much. I'm not paying $1k if I only save 20lbs, but if it's like 60, it's an easy decision.

Full exhaust systems aren't worth it. If you want to be practical, save money, and save weight, just have an exhaust shop cut out the resonators and weld in open pipe in their place. Then, cut the stock muffler off and weld in a replacement like a Rogue Engineering DMS (mufflers only) or Rogue Engineering Icon Muffler. It will be tons cheaper than buying a whole system and just as light. The only difference is that you won't have shiny stainless steel piping - but who cares.

I like the idea, but I'm not sure I'll really save much, $550 for an exhaust, maybe $70 for shipping, $50 in materials for the resonator-deletes, and maybe $200 in labor to put this all together. (8 welds?) I'm at $870.
Now I don't have a stock exhaust to return to when it's time to sell the car, I still have dual piping all the way back, and I've saved how much weight? Sounds like 9lbs from the muffler, how much for each resonator, does anyone know? I'm thinking 15 lbs a piece, if the exhaust is really 30lbs. So that would put it at 39lbs saved. I've saved myself $130, but I still have dual piping all the way back, (not sure if that's heavier than single 3"?) and likely a rather louder sound, as the custom unit I had spec'd out used two mufflers. (I daily drive the car, so I want it rather quiet by aftermarket standards) So the custom version is likely a bit heavier than the Ikon route, but again, compared to what? I know someone has to have weighed this beast! |

I see what you're getting at now - hrm, well, in that case, maybe getting a DMS might be worth your while - it will delete a resonator and bolt up. Then, when you want to sell your car, you just toss the stock one back on, resonator and all...

The DMS bolts to the center flange? They sure don't go out of their way to make that clear on the website. (man the Rogue website sucks!)

You can save a ton of weight(I'm gonna guess 45lbs) by going to a custom single 3", the price isn't as bad as you'd think.

How much did yours cost, what was in it, and how much did it weigh? $1,000 was the quote I received from a local exhaust builder, but it included two mufflers, since I want to keep things fairly quiet.

I don't have one, I'm just thinking of getting an exhaust that I can quickly swap for a different series I run in.

I know when I do mine, i'm going 3" all the way back. Definitly the way to go for performance and weight savings.
