Dyno Test on why Short Ram intakes don't work

Makes sense to me, I've also seen something like this before.

Send a message via AIM to HardPark'd TT
Yet we still will get threads on "what intake gives you the most hp..."

question..... when you look at the design of the k&n 57 series intake... that comes with a heat shield and also the air from the kidney grills is channeled in through that way

looking at the 350z... i see no intake snorkels or anything to push outside air to the filter, and clearly no heat shield

while i know i get no horsepower from a k&n 57... would i lose less? stay the same? thoughts?

Cold air, long tube type, (Dinan, Benefer, Cosmo) those are the only type I would ever use. If you're worried about ingesting water, get a bypass valve.

i have a k&n panel filter with a hole cut in the front of my airbox with a pipe leading to the front bumper. cone filters suck in hot air off of the engine reducing power as well.

Same issue. The filter is to close to the MAF, and causes it to read too much/too little air because of turbulence. You need a Venturi ring of some sort (like JWT uses on Nissans) or a longer tube to smooth out the air flow.

I don't think I see a difference in horsepower per say but see a difference in throttle response

hmm that article makes alot of sense...now what about the foam filter on the itg/conforti intake systems...will that also create an air vortex?
i have the conforti intake with the heat shield that draws air from the front kidney vents

The Gruppe M intake is a bit different though, not really a HAI intake.

EDIT: Nice information from Import Tuner Magazine BTW..........LOL

I am sure there are about 1000 posts on intakes here that Import Tuner Mag did not publish.

I hate Import Tuner, but I hold Tony from Motordyne Engineering in high regard. I've had MANY heated debates with him on My350Z, and I can tell you, not only does he go through great lengths to gather information, he is very intelligent. His input into this article is the only reason it's worth reading.

That being said, it's NOT were the air is being gathered from, it's HOW. A intake element closer to the MAF will have more turbulence than something further way. this turbulence is what leads the maf to read more/less air and cause it to run rich/lean. The gruppe M is just not as effective as a Dinan long tube intake, and the Conforti as well (though you can see the Conforti uses a smaller tube to separate the intake from the maf)

I'm not sure if this is sarcasm, but I'd like to see these long discussed topics complete with MAF readings, and A/F readouts. Most of the threads regarding intakes usually consist of "search, this has been covered" "they don't add power, just sound" and "stock is best"

Those can be found in the Import Tuner Mag you just posted.

I'm pretty sure that article has A/F ratios clearly listed. Please take your douchebaggery elsewhere if you cannot provide a constructive (and informative) post.

Instead of you making a comment about Import Tuner (which I don't read, and those aren't my scans) Why don't you provide me on the specifics on what invalidates this article.

Are you just an idiot? Or did you not see how this thread went from being informative and factual to down right childish. Even my biggest critic JJ commented, and questioned in a mature fashion.

Grow up.
