New AR Builds Underway

Got a new AR project in the works. I want a lightweight 16" AR for general rifle training, as well as training other people who don't have one. Here's the build idea:

VLTOR lower receiver group
Magpul ACS stock
TangoDown grip
Daniel Defense upper receiver
Daniel Denfese 16" midlength CHF lightweight barrel w/ FSP
Rainier Arms ThunderBolt BCG or Spikes Tactical NiB BCG
Centurion Arms C4 Mid Cutout rail
BattleComp 2.0

Trying to decide on an optic right now. Have actually been thinking about slapping on an EOTech to spend some time behind it for better comparison to the Aimpoints, but the new Trijicon SRS is an intriguing option.

I have a bunch of stuff on backorder right now for my next build. This is getting nuts.

On the upside, I scored this used LT649/Aimpoint 3x combo used on SnipersHide for a great deal.

I think the VLTOR lower is so sick. I wish they had a more quality LPK installed.

I am not sure I will be getting the VLTOR now. The only real reason to get it at this point is to get the oversized mag button and the side mount sling swivels. There are too many other lowers I want, namely the Noveske Gen2 Chainsaw lower. This current lightweight 16" carbine is going to run off of a BCM Cosmetic Blem lower. I'm going to be hitting it with spray paint, so I don't need anything pretty- just reliable. The Noveske is going on my next 16" DMR build, which will sport a Leupold Mark6 1-6x.

Well, just ordered a Noveske Gen2 Chainsaw lower. Just had to. Forget everything else for my current build. I love that chainsaw, and the Noveske Gen2 is just a phenomenal lower.

I'm also likely going to be painting it, so not worried about a blemished lower. I wanted the Gen2 the first time I saw it. I will certainly cover the chainsaw with tape when I paint to keep it visible. Why, because it's a frickin' chainsaw.
But seriously, all reports about the Gen2 are coming back 100% positive, which is what you would expect from Noveske.

Yeah Noveske has alot riding on getting it right every time, especially at those prices. Good luck with the build.

The two big things I'm waiting on are the upper receiver and the barrel. The upper will either be a BCM or a Noveske Chainsaw upper. The barrel is going to be the Daniel Defense midlength lightweight 16" with low profile gas block. However, that barrel has been on back-order for about 3 months. RainierArms has first dibs on the barrels once they are shipped from Daniel Defense, and DD said the barrels will be going out in early to mid April. So, just waiting on Rainier to get them back in stock.

This is a sweet project

It's a lightweight training rifle. I am not sure what the overall weight will be, but I'm projecting somewhere around 7lbs once finished. I contemplated ditching the STR for a CTR to save 3.5oz on the back end, but having that extra weight, plus battery weight, will definitely help to balance out the rifle.

Don't you hate the huge increase in firearm sales?

Going to be a nice build. Noveske customer service is awesome too. I emailed them about changing a few things on one of their uppers(pri gasbuster charging handle from gunfighter and adding front/rear sights.) They just offered to charge the difference of the parts I wanted without giving me a hard time and answered pretty quickly.

Do you have any of their chainsaw products? Are they very noticeable blemishes?

Looking forward to your review of the STR stock since that's what I'm planning on using for mine as well.

I've never seen any of their chainsaw products, but I will in about a week. The order is being processed now for the lower. I suspect it'll be like a BCM Blemished lower where it's probably a small scratch. I don't baby my weapons, so I don't care about the finish. I'll take some detailed pictures once I get it.

Noveske Gen2 Chainsaw lower came in yesterday. There is one area of blemish that is not easily visible, and almost invisible if not in direct light. It's seriously a fantastic lower.








You can see the good amount of magwell flare. This is a great feature.

I'm really surprised at how flared the magwell is. The other pictures that I have seen have not captured it as well.
