Question Question about updating GPS Maps for Aus

Hi folks, I have a splendid little 330ci, 2001, but the GPS CD is from 2000, hence I find myself driving through (on the screen) farm land and countryside where there are actually houses and made roads now. Obviously I need to update the maps but going to BMW would seem counter intelligent from a $$$ perspective. Are there any suppliers other than BMW? Also, do I need to upgrade the software?

Thanks
Pete

you dont have to flash the software, as far as i know to even do that you have to either get it from bmw or know some one that works there.

As far as new maps no one really sells it you either have to burn a original or buy it from someone who has it.

You will need V15 CD, for update this comes with cameras and all but our E46 wont read them they are locked and BMW have no plans in unlocking them, not only that it will set you back about $500...there have been plenty of offers from fellow E46 to burn them, but when push comes to shove it never happens....So just buy yourself a Tom Tom with suction cap and stick it to the existing screen, looks just as neat...... and its a hell of a lot cheaper.

if anyone in melb wants to try a porsche cd (i think its a whereis map) just pm me and we can organise something to test it out.

cd only goes upto 06/2008

look on ebay for the maps. thats where i bought mine from. dvd from sylvania bmw costs $603.82. i got it off ebay for about $150. make sure it fits ur Nav computer. mine is MKIV. not sure what it was in 2000. also, make sure you buy australian maps as most are european. you may not even find AUS maps on ebay, but ask a seller and they should be able to get you one

i keep forgetting what the term is for the MkIV maps ... but are these maps for the E46 or iDrive cars? or is business = E46 and Prof = iDrive? or are the E46 maps called "HIGH?"

These maps should work for all models - as long as they have either the business nav or professional nav. I cant remember what the different is between the two, both i think run off a dvd. Your head unit mite say business or professional on it.

Does the current V16 software work on a 2000 330Ci?
I have read somewhere that the nav systems have changed several times since 2000 but is the current software still compatible?

As long as its V16 Red in CD format. This will work with the MKII and MKIII early E46 systems

I have no idea, download it and try it out.
I would imagine that whether you have business or professional it would be the same.
