why doesn't the 325 get any love for turbo applications?

The kit is sitting on a shelf at my shop. I've been so busy with other stuff that I haven't had a chance to even look at it.

Today I'm flying to Montreal for the F1 race, which I planned with 2 friends nearly 6-7 months ago. Life just seems to be in high gear lately....

Hopefully I'll be able to install it in August, but I need to be done of a couple of other projects first.

I wish I had more to report, but I'm simply swamped with other things. It would be really unfair to a number of other parties if I started installing the kit without proceeding with what I promised.

I might have some pictures of components that have really impressed me, but the install must wait....

A minor update, but I think it's fairly important to track this kind of stuff.

The 3.38 open diff has been swapped for a 4.10 LSD, and I took the car to the track.

I ran a best of 14.9891 @ 92.19 MPH in warmer weather than my last trip to the track. The car ran consistent 2.2X sec 60fts on a non-prep'd track, with a best of 2.17. Where with the 3.38 the car would cross the traps at 6300+ in 3rd gear, the 4.10 prompted a shift into 4rth gear at about the 990ft mark and saw just under 6k RPM crossing the stripe.

As a reminder, in cooler weather with a prepared track the best 60ft I saw was 2.27 and it was far from being consistent. The best run was a 15.1590 @ 92.37 MPH

The real tell of the tale is at the 1/8th mile however, as that's where the true differences between the 3.38 and 4.10 ratios show up:

The 3.38 did a 9.8140 @ 73.14 MPH.

The 4.10 did a 9.67 @ 74.52 MPH.

With the 4.10 LSD, the darn automatic transmission hangs onto 3rd gear as it bounces off of the rev limiter before shifting into 4th. (It does the same shifting into 3rd but you don't notice it as much) Where we have a clear 1+ MPH gain with the 4.10 at the 1/8th...it's disappeared by the time the car has hit the 1/4.

Before I do any more "go fast" stuff with the car, I need to sort out the automatic gear shifting issues. Under full throttle in "Manual shift" mode, it simply doesn't shift when you tell it to. Under part throttle, it shifts no problem.

Adam, a local car here has that same issue with the auto not shifting when it's supposed to. We actually boosted it with a simple 8psi AA kit and in 3rd gear sometimes it damn near goes past 7k and bounces before it shifts. No idea why, but I'd love to hear about you figuring it out!

David,

I'm installing a data logger into the 330i to more carefully watch what's actually going on. I'll be able to log when I "ask" for a shift, when it actually happens, and other parameters like the TPS, RPM and acceleration Gs. The next step after that is to change the transmission fluid and filter to see if that helps. (Switching to Royal Purple) After that, I'll probably try ESS's transmission software.

Adam,
Is this a SMG tranny?

I am asking because I knew that HPF was doing some upgrades with the SMG tranny's to handle extra boost and this sounds very similar to what Adam is having problems with. So these are very different trannys I assume.

The SMG in the M3 is the same as the 6 speed in the M3 but without detents and with an external shift mechanism that isn't driver controlled.

The auto in Adams car is a ZF 5-speed slushbox (IIRC).
