Chrip noise from drive sport seat over bumps

Hi guys,

I'm trying to work out what is causing a 'chirp' noise when I go over bumps from what I think is the driver side seat area (although at times sounds like steering column).

I've got the following symptoms -
1. Doesn't happen when you first hop in the car, takes about 1/2 hour of driving for the noise to start.
2. I can't replicate the noise on demand.
3. Is a high pitched, short duration, chirp noise. The chirp will appear once per bump - never multiple.
4. It happens when I hit some, but not all bumps in the road - natural bumps in the road, speed bumps, expansion joints on freeway.
5. The chirp will occur regardless of speed - 10km/h through 120km/h.
6. I have electric leather sport seats.
7. It is more likely to occur if I'm turning the wheel off centre to the right.

I've found the following -
8. The noise appears to come from the steering column, but giving it a good shake doesn't make the noise. I have had the steering column fully extended, closed and all positions and the noise is still there. The noise still happens even if I'm not holding the steering wheel.
9. If the noise starts and I yank on the seat belt to pin my hips into the seat the noise seems to stop.
10. The steering column has been 'siliconed' by the mechanic.
11. I have tried to grease the runners for the seat.
12. The position of the seat back and cushion don't seem to make a difference.

I have absolutely no idea what might be causing this. It's extremely frustrating, more so because it's not easily replicated. I'm thinking that point 9 is going to be related to the final solution, but not even sure where to start.

I hope someone has had a similar and can help me.

Similar chirps? Yes. Can I help you eliminate it? Sadly, no. I've determined that mine are increased if my left leg is relaxed and leaning over towards the door. When I straighten my leg to engage the clutch, the chirps seem to go away. Therefore I must assume that the source of my chirp is either inside the cushion (spring or linked metal support wire) or perhaps further down towards the runners.

At this point my vert has multiple chirps and such. A few more and it will be like a little symphony and I wont need a radio any more.

I agree with the leg issue you raised, now that you've mentioned it I recall a similar result I achieved by accident.

Does your seat take a little bit of time before the noise starts or is it all the time?

okay, basically I worked out that it was where the seat belt clicks in. If you pull on the seat belt and load up the clasp, the noise stops. Simple solution? Spray inside the buckle with silicone spray. No more chirp.

Only problem now? The seat belt light on the dash board goes off before the seat belt is clipped in. Does this happen on anyones else car? Seems faulty to me. But no noise, so I'll live with an over eager seat belt light.
