Got my e46 bmw 323i back from bodyshop and the miles are ~20K Less!

Wtf?

I just noticed it few hours after i picked it up it's been 3 days I've had the car and the miles when i dropped the car were 111k now the computer shows it as 91k ...

Car is a 2000 323i it was in accident and they had to change bumper.

What you think i should do? call the bodyshop? Get a lawyer?

Suggestions needed.

Actual mileage is stored in a few locations, including your key FOB. Unplugging the battery for 15 minutes may reset it.

As said above, is the tamper dot illuminated? Can you prove that the mileage is less? Not that I don't believe you, but that shop isn't going to believe you without some kinda proof.

You might want to re-read post #1.

This is not an unheard of problem. The shop does not benefit on rolling back the mileage on a car they're not selling. So as long as the red dot on the dash cluster is not illuminated, it will auto correct itself... eventually.

It happened to someone else on this forum, i was gonna say neil too but ^^

Tamper dot only illuminates if EWS/LCU/Cluster/ECU vin doesn't check out the same.(of course there could be other triggers for it , our electrical components haven't been that studied)

True but if I wanted to sell my car in this year the carfax would report rollback because i got a Smog test a few months ago, or if they took my car to the bMW dealership the key stores the info. I'd love to have it at 90k but realistically this is illegal and I don't want to be in charge of that accusation.

I emailed the bodyshop for them to call me first thing in the morning, I want an answer why they did this in writing before they work on my car again (that is if they accept that they did this)
