JL Audio 12W7
I have some questions about the W7
1. What would sound better, one 12" W7, or two 10" W7's 2. What kind of box do these sound best in? I have a vert and want to port them via the ski pass 3. For the one 12", and the two 10", what kind of power would I need. How many watts? 4. Would I need a capaciter with either of the two setups (10" vs. 12") |

the two 10's would sound better, but 1 12 would hit harder than two of 99% of any other 12's as far as the amp either way you'll need the JL1000/1 or two JL500/l's. I was going to get one 10w myself and everyone recommended the 500/1 to push it. I'm having problems myself trying to get the best sound quality from my sedan with the sealed off trunck so I cant help with what kind or box Hope this helps!

Thanks man... So with 1000 watts I will pretty much need a capaciter, correct?
I would love to hear from someone who has these subs. Anyone out there whos experienced them first hand? |

W7
I have the 12 w7 with a 500/1 pushing it and it is more than enough. especially with my boston pro series components. I had the 1000/1 and it was drawing too much power out of my car. you need to get another battery to run that amp, or you could seriously damage something. I would reccomend doing a 12w7 in a ported enclosure and do some components to get more volume up front.

i have the jl audio 1000/1 amplifier with a jl audio 12/w6 subwoofer and it is more than enough, i also have a capacitor, but it doesn't seem to do anything because my lights still dim when it hits.

Once again I don't know if this helps but..
I would get the capacitor if I got the 10 or 12. It's not that I doubt that the battery is strong enough for it, but the "W7" series are probably the most powerful subs on the market and according to every so called "pro" I talked with they are under-rated. So when I get mine I'm just going to spend the extra $100 or so and get the cap. I'm not very optimistic, so when it comes to my cash I always have a better safe than sorry attitude. That's what brought me to the Bimmer in the first place!

I do agree with "blk" though...that 1000/1 is a monster! 12w7 with a 1000/1 is enough to change the direction of your blood flow!!!

I need your help too! I just bought 2 12w7's but I am still in a huge debate over what size amps to run with them.
1. Is running 2 1000/1's too much or "unneccesary"? IF SO, THEN: 2. Is running 2 500/1's better than running 1 1000/1? Remember, this is for 2 12w7's Thanks guys-- |

First of all, caps are useless they will not help your electrical system out at all, you have to upgrade your alternator. Upgrading a battery will be pointless because it only is in use when the car's ignition is off, in my opinion, get 2 12's and feed them 750 watts each and that will be more than enought to blow your brains. Then get 1 good 100x4 amp to power some great components and you will be set. DOnt forget to upgrade your alt!
