at that price point and from Macy's you can pretty much go with whatever you like the looks of. I personally wouldn't go with a Fashion Label brand I'd stick with a Watchmaker brand like a Citizen, Seiko, Casio, Fossil, Skagen, Bulova. etc.

Here's my Hamilton Khaki BeLOW Zero black-out watch.
Agreed Luminox.

Agreed. Maybe if anything change the band so you can still wear it and not risk breaking the vintage metal one?

+1. I'd throw in Hamilton if it can be had at that price range.

That would be my plan. It's already on it's 2nd bezel.

Want to know what my FIL paid for it 40 years ago? $150...

Thanks, I think it's down to citizen, skagen, or bulova since I have a seiko already.

His completely blind estimate is $1500 to restore to working and wearable condition based solely on work he's seen performed.

More to come when I hear back from the watchmaker.
That is quite unsatisfying Ken

Too bad you're not more local. I would be down to tinker with it and see if I could make something happen. Nothing forbids my soul to rest more than a broken Omega. Its like seeing an E30 M3 in the salvage yard. You just don't feel right walking away.

I actually just heard back from the watchmaker's assistant. He is going to inspect it and give a free estimate. His hunch is that he can hit $500-$800 because parts are apparently readily available (at least to them...), possibly less depending on how the internals were maintained during previous repairs.

The bracelet, he said, would be difficult/expensive to replace with original - but I'm not terribly concerned with that.

I'll keep you posted.

hindsite I think i would as well. I just wasn't into watches to know the difference and made purchases based mainly on looks and name recognition.

Good deal for someone wanting a B&R (not mine): http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/jwl/3555651287.html

Retail is about $4800 and used they go for about $3500. This one also apparently has 500+ in bands.

I dunno why, but I just can't get into that particular B&R.

Yeah, they don't do much for me either, although I like a lot of their classic styles.

This sounds much closer to my estimate. I had it at I think $600 when you talked to me about it.

Does the clasp on the band open and close? Is the band otherwise more or less functional? If so you can probably just polish and buff the band. Its a big no no in the Speedmaster community but given the condition of the watch its your best bet. Not having to buy a complete Omega band will make this repair much easier on the wallet imo.
